Tyson in the 80s did hit harder than anyone in that era, no doubt at all. 90s not so much.

No man, you cannot say that just because someone could not stop a fighter that he could not be the hardest puncher.
If Witherspoon & Morrison were more skilled at landing punches, especially in combinations, they would have been more effective punchers-not necessarily even near the hardest punchers.
But these guys hit hard. Though would Morrison have hit so hard absent any PEDs?
Shavers is still the consensus hardest hitter ever. At least for his size, maybe any size.
That he KOed most everyone when he did not get toasted himself or gass, even with decent but limited skills, is another testiment to his massive power.

Oh, yes there is. I'm pretty sure that Bruno said that Smith hit him the hardest.

Shavers also didn't KO many top fighters. Hard punchers isn't the same as being able to KO anyone. So instead of reading Boxrec, you should just trust what your eyes tell you. Wilder has silly power in that right.

Haven't seen this Fields guy, but won't rule out that a relatively unknown punched harder than any of the guys we mentioned.

    Smith
Bruno was hit by a flurry of punches at the end of that fight. I don't see ko power to compare to Mike vs Berbick, Spinks, Tubbs, Holmes.

Mostly likey Wladmir Klistchko and Anthony Joshua use PED's too. So who cares. The point is just because a boxer says one fighter hits harder doesn't meant it is true. Fighters lie. Shannon Briggs said Vitali hit harder than Lennox Lewis. Vitali landed countless flush punches 12 years and 50 pounds after Lewis beat Briggs. Lewis put Briggs down 2 or 3 times and Vital could never drop him.

You want to go back to Larry Holmes as I said he stated Butterbean punched harder than Tyson so that must be true to right? Watch as you contradict yourself. Holmes also was almost knocked out by one punch by light punching Renaldo Snipes and I never heard Holmes mention that Snipes punched hard.. Shavers in the consensus hardest puncher to who? Casual fans like you? I thought Foreman had no skills? Foreman knocked out a higher percentage of fighters and a better group of fighters than Shavers. Foreman with no skills like most of you people claim he has when it benefits you and with no stamina because he got tired in 1 fight was able to fight to he was 48. The only fighter who fought both Shavers and Foreman and stated Shavers punched harder was Lyle. Who of course got knocked out a out of shape Foreman. Ali never got hit clean by Foreman. Ken Norton said he didn't know who hit him harder. Jimmy Young was never asked the question. Leroy Caldwell stated 30 plus years ago that Foreman, Shavers, Bruno., all had the same level of power.

You want to go further casual boxing fan? Foreman knocked out a prime Ken Norton. Shavers knocked out a past his prime Norton. Foreman knocked out Caldwell first. Foreman fougth Jimmy Young when he was at his best. Shavers fought a Young who had 10 fights compared to his 40 plus. Tex Cobb never faced Foreman, Tyson, ect. Anyway stop believing stupid crap because casual fans on this site tell you so. I bet you still believe 180 pound Marciano could punch as hard or harder than a 220 plus pound modern heavyweight.

Right and did I type Shavers knocked out top opponents or was one of the top punchers? Maybe learn to read. Also you never heard of Tye Fields? Then yeah you are a casual fan or some little teenager who just start watching boxing recently. Wilder punches so hard than it took him 8 rounds of punching to stop a broken down never was good Chris Arreola yet Bermaine Stiverne did it much easier before Wilder. Also Wilder never actually stopped Chris. The corner stopped it I believe. Wilder punches so harder that it took him 9 rounds to knock out club fighter John Molina when Chris Arreola did it first and did it in 1. As I stated Wilder has yet to knock out anybody besides old men and club fighters. Only casual fans like you are impressed by this.

Jumbo Cummings hit Bruno HARDER than Smith with a single shot. The bell saving Bruno from a ko. Nobody is going to rate that guy as biggest puncher in 80s.

Go to 8:13. Bruno totally gone from a right hand and saved by bell.

Actually it seemed to have bigger effect than any single shot by either Smith or Tyson. But we are watching on Youtube, Bruno was the guy in there taking their punches over several wounds. I'd go by his words as long as it doesn't seem unreasonable. And it doesn't. But if you want to have Cummings as a bigger puncher than Tyson, I won't argue. ;)

Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if Bruno himself eclipsed Tyson for one shot power.
