Right, lets make one thing clear. I have been a Hatton fan for sometime & have seen pretty much every fight of his since he became British champion. I have to say though, a few things that I let go before are really starting to wind me up as I will outline below. Ray Hatton, besides being Ricky's Dad who is he? I don't care what he has to say so why is he now Ricky's frontman? I know, officially, he has the title of manager but come on does he actually know anything about boxing? I think this is a nice way for Hatton to extend the family man facade that we are lead to believe is part of the Hatton cause. Junior Witter, why wont he fight him? For a long time I dismissed notions that he was ducking Witter but now, I must say, it looks like he is. Ricky has always sold himself as being a man of the people who will give the crowd what they want. The people who want this fight are from three main folds. The Hatton die hards who would like to see him knock Juniors head off, the Witter fans (yeah all ten of them) who believe he can beat Ricky & finally general fans like me who just want to see this domestic feud settled. Why wont he fight him? I refuse to accept Ricky needs a tune up. He was soundly beaten by Floyd but he didn't take an absolute pasting. The Malignaggi fight could be tricky to make because of his legal obligation to N'dou. Hitman Senior has today confirmed the Rees fight wont happen so why wont he fight Junior for crying out loud? It's the logical option, they are one & two, Junior holds the WBC it's perfect. I think Ricky at least thinks he could look very bad in this fight if not lose & is not prepared to jeopardise his status further by taking a fight with Witter. Finally his pathetic binge drinking. I think it's a damning indictment of British society that we are making a hero out of someone who "has it large" for three day sessions. He's supposed to be an athlete, he's coming off a loss where he made some big claims, he should be at least trying to maintain a level of fitness before his next bout. I think Hatton bares a lot of responsibilty for bringing the moronic football thug, nationalistic mentality we have seen creep into our sport. Most of his fans are just that, Hatton fans, they are not boxing fans. In closing I will say this. If Ricky doesn't fight Junior in his next fight I will no longer consider him number one at 140 regardless of who Witter has to settle for next. If Ricky doesn't fight Witter at all I will be tempted to pass him off as a flash in the pan, WBU big mouth who got lucky. Do the right thing Ricky & make the god damn fight.
Yeah your right, its a bit silly now, just take the fight,im sure he will win,but maybe deep down hes not so sure.
I totally agree with you. I've watched every Hatton fight since the Thaxton fight and am a big fan of him but there is no excuse for him not to fight Witter now.
good post, the likes of myself and Scurla have been saying this stuff for a long time. The only way Hatton will fight Witter is when he sees Junior has slowed right down, that's Ricky's style. The only time he fought an elite fighter in their prime he got his ass handed to him. I've said all along he's an overrated conman and Witter beats him.
I pretty much agree with all of this. He keeps talking about wanting to give a fight for the british fans...fight the British fighter who is WBC champion then! Makes perfect sense...unless you are worried about a second loss destroying your legacy and ending your career.
Very well put Dan-B, and the eloquent way you laid it out and explained all of your points well, there's hardly any way any body objective at all can argue that. Fine post, sir.
Oh No people who call hatton elite don't know anything. Maybe if Pbf had beaten witter, maybe floyd would have done something at 140.
I'm sick to death of hearing about Junior Witter and Ricky Hatton This **** will end up like Mac vs Haye. One day it will suddenly be announced, and all the cretins that were shouting their mouths about ducking will look very silly It will happen, but not until late this year at the earliest, probably next
It's nice to read that coming from an Englishman. I have wondered for years why Hatton just didn't fight Witter - It makes more sense now than ever. I think Witter has the style to trouble Hatton and I always have, I think Ricky knows it too. I really hope it happens.
