Prime for Prime, who wins between Aaron Pryor and Floyd Mayweather at Jr. Welterweight Pryor: 39-1 (35) Mayweather: 39-0 (25) I'm going with Pryor by decision. I think his nonstop assault would disrupt Floyd's rhythm, and that he was skilled and fast enough to avoid being outboxed by PBF. A stoppage is possible in 15 rounds, but I'll say unanimous decision.
Aaron by UD or possible Tko... two things work here..Pryor has very fast hands as well and incredible output...Floyd cant roll that shoulder all night... He's going to be constantly assaulted. I doubt Floyd can hurt Pryor as well..
Very good match up, and much closer then people think IMO, I really think this one is a pick em Pryor for all of his skill, pressure and punch output was certainly open for counters, and floyd is one of the best in the business at counter punching. On the flip side though, as shown by the first Castillo fight, a highly skilled pressure fighter against floyd can be very effective. Not only is Pryor a better pressure fighter then Castillo, he has more power and a greater punch output. I see Floyd countering and moving early in the fight, staying on his toes and avoiding going back to the ropes (if he is smart). He probably takes most of the early rounds and may even put pryor on the canvas. But i see pryors relentless punch output and pressure being a factor from about round 5 onwards, and eventually overtaking floyd down the stretch to win a very hard fought MD or ever SD, with some judges acknowledging floyds counter punching and clean shots, and the others favoring Pyrors output, workrate and ring generalship Though its kinda a poor analogy, imagine Calzaghe/Hopkins on a much higher level with less clinching Sage
I agree, the non-stop pressure would put Floyd off his game and send him into a defensive shell (something he is guilty of doing at times). He would be too busy trying to minimize he damage he sustains instead of creating his own offense. Mayweather's low punch out-put would get him badly out worked by Pryor, who threw twice as many punches as him. I suspect Pryor would use his jab to upset Floyd's rythm and get him to back into the ropes, where he would be able to work the body/head. Pryor was a far superior fighter up close, but could also give Floyd hell from mid-range with his swarming, awkward punches. I doubt Mayweather has the power and offense to keep Pryor away from him for 12 rounds, who himself had an iron chin. At long range Pryor is also capable of competing with Floyd, as he proved that he could adapt to boxing at times during his career. Clear UD for Pryor.
Both have amazing stamina and good reflexes with Pryor as the aggressor and PBF as the counterpuncher. We know that elite fighters can give Pryor some problems as shown by Arguello. Pryor is hittable and Floyd is one of the most accurate punchers that laced the glove. But then again, Pryor is aggressive and fast enough to avoid some counters by Floyd and land his own bombs. This is a give em fight. I will call it a draw.
Aggression and will to win. Pryor definitely in the first fight if there is a series. But I think if PBF lost to Pryor, then Floyd would himself would become a better fighter next time.
I can't see PBF landing to many counters in this fight. Pryor would not walk in, he had some of the best lateral movement I have ever seen, and his constant punching from angles Floyd would not be expecting would trouble Floyd, as would Pryor's jab, which is highly underrated. Pryor is hittable, but not easy to hit, He had good defense and when he chose to could box with the very best. Floyd has one gameplan. Move, stop, block/slip punches, counter with 2 or 3 sharp punches, move again and repeat. And as the rounds go by, he steps up the pace and the attack (usually). It's a brilliant strategy, but one that doesn't work against a guy like Pryor. He'd be right there all night, pushing Floyd back, cutting off the ring, and punching. Floyd's great no doubt, but i can't see his style doing well against Aaron. Especially if it's 15 rounds. Probably something like 10-5 for Pryor. Although only 2 or 3 fighters went the distance with a prime Pryor.
PBF UD 15 or 12 .... His defensive style is something that Pryor has never seen and i'm sure that he's faster than Pryor --
aaron pryor wasn't exactly the hardest person in the world to hit FLUSH and REPEATEDLY floyd is one of the most intelligent (ring-wise) and athletically gifted fighters we've seen in a long time... plus he's always had a great team... i think he'd have good sparring in preparation for this fight and be able to come up with a gameplan to beat the hawk the hawk's team btw... they always cracked me up WHAT TIME IS IT? HAWK TIME!
I don't think there's an edge in speed either way, but if anyone was faster, it was Pryor. Both guys throwing 10 punches with full force, Pryor finishes before PBF. I agree he never met a fighter with PBF's defense, but Floyd's never met a fighter who will pressure him like Aaron, who was as fast as Aaron and would be that fast for 15 rounds, who had anywhere near the workrate of Aaron, or who hit harder than Aaron. ODLH did not hit harder. He is bigger, but his power is ovverated. Pryor was like 35-0 (32) when he retired the first time. Floyd's struggled with pressure before, and supreme defense isn't going to win PBF the fight. If you say Aaron was easy to hit, you haven't watched much of his fights. He wasn't a defensive fighter, and could be hit, but he's no Hatton. far, far from it. He got hit cleanly by Arguello, but with all due respect to PBF, I might have to call Arguello the most precise puncher ever. PBF would be against the ropes 70% of the time, whether he wanted to be or not.
