I've been following boxing for 35 years, and Max Kellerman is, hands down, the WORST boxing commentator I've ever seen. Alone among guys that have an ****yst job, he never worked as a journalist, or was a participant of any sort. He's utterly unqualified, and it shows every time. There are people on this site who could do a far better job, frankly.

Why in the world would Jones be jealous of Andre Ward? I agree that he had to say nice things but was probably thinking "what's all the noise, this guy ain't ****"

    I don't agree.
Kellerman was good and was evolving to be much better than that when he was at ESPN.
Then came his opportunity at HBO and his evolvement has stalled.

The reason why Kellerman hasn't evolved is the very same reason why this thread was started, to criticize HBO for handing their commentators a script to be followed.

At ESPN, Kellerman formed his own opinions and it didn't matter to him if they were against the grain, they were his opinions and I liked that about him.

With a script to follow, Kellerman and most everyone in that HBO broadcast crew have to say things they really don't believe, and that makes it extremely difficult on Kellerman who's always been about expressing his own views.

Chavez vs Taylor! For all you kids in this forum to take note when HBO started handing their commentaros scripts to follow.

Watch that fight with no sound and you'll see the reality of a truly close fight.
Watch it with sound on and Lamps and Co. will have you believing Taylor is dominating and winning every round.
