Vitaly can abandon the WBC belt, insist that little brother is one of the two fighters to contest for it, and deal with the WBA to get a shot at Povetkin and the WBA "regular" belt.

This might work. The alphebet organizations are just after sanctioning fees, and Vitaly can prove more profitable to the WBA by far than can Povetkin. Simllarly, the sport has sank so much that the WBC might profit from having a unified champion. And Vitaly could add extra incentive by threatening to throw up all kinds of law suits, and by threatening to stink the place out in his fights and fight only once a year if they refuse.

It would be all the same to Vitaly- the WBA "regular" title will attract good fighters to fight him, and he can continue adding to his legacy.

    I think its a plan.

So that little brother can pick it up. They really support each other.

The point is that with the WBA "regular" belt, Vitlay had something to shoot for that could also bring good, legacy enhancing fighters, starting with Povetkin, to him.

WBA regular belt makes you mandatory for Vova which is what Povetkin is now. So Vitali would be dropping his WBC belt to win the WBA regular forcing him to fight his brother.

    Didn't hink of that.

But couldn't he just always refuse the shot? Really, the WBA are always just looking for money anyway.

I'm sure thats what Povetkin will be trying to do. As corrupt as the WBA are i don't see a way they could completely avoid the mandatory status.

If you just refused the shot they would probably strip you then have 1 and 2 fight for the vacant belt, rinse, repeat and they get their money.

When he's ready to retire he could do it. Secure the fight for Wlad and just walk away.

Well, too bad. I would love to see Wlad get his due as unified champ whiles Vitaly continued to get fights to build on his legacy.

I honestly don't think Vitaly is going to walk away any time soon. He is winning too easily, and every fight he wins at the age of forty or over is going to add to is leagacy big time.

How does a man walk away when he is on the cup of getting the respect he has always deserved?

Your right. Only reason I can think of is his political career but I know absolutely nothing about it. And personally I want him to stay a bit longer.

He could also petition the WBC to reinstate him as Emeritus champ, he'll still pay his regular sanctioning fees, his WBC belt becomes vacant for more sanctioning fees, on the condition his bro gets first crack at it. That way he doesn't lose his status as WBC champ, Wlad unifies, and he can even pick up the bull**** WBA regular belt and claim he partially unified too.
