Yeah, Wlad can be famous in the States because of his girlfriend, lets just hope no one sees his fights and ruins it for him.
In Bulgaria only Wladimir's fight was on the media attention. There wasn't any reports about Mayweather's fight. Not to mention the ordinary sports fans. Only about Wladimir's fight.
Wlad is big in many countries. Saturday's fight had high TV ratings in not only Germany (RTL) and Ukraine (INTER), but in Poland (ORANGE), Russia (Russia 2 and Sport1), Kazakhstan, Hungary, Romania, and many other countries.
Boxing results have been on the back page in the States for a few Decades now. Doesn't matter who it is. Occasionally USA Today will have a write up hell even Sports Illustrated doesn't cover Boxing like it used to in the 60's, 70's, and 80's. PPV had a lot to do with that. Turned a lot of people away.
Floyd is completely unknown in Germany outside hard core boxing fans. I can guarantee you that out of those people who call themselves "boxing fans" only 5% will even have heard of Floyd in Germany. (He gets absolutely no media and TV coverage NONE) The Klitschko brothers are, on the other hand universally known, you'd be very hard pressed to find anyone in Germany who doesn't know who they are. Even my mom who didn't know who Messi was knows who the Klitschkos are.
Mainstream talkshows also feature jugglers and exotic animals as guests, Both more entertaining than Wlad. Floyds also bigger in Asia which trumps any Continent you can come up with. Dubai offered him millions to fight and he has the entire nation of the phillipines who knows him very well.
Floyd is not bigger worldwide. Just accept it and it will make you feel better. No need to deny it. It will not go away.
No, not even Oscar could dethrone Heavyweights....until boring ass Wlad came along, Tyson sold 1,5 million vs Peter Mcnelly! Close to 2 million vs Lennox and Holyfield.
