After having to bare with the worst era in heavyweight history during the last 5 years that consisted mainly of out of shape fat old men..........The heavyweight division has begun a new era.......its starting to shape into an impressive one. All those old fat donuts began fading away and suddenly in the past year YOUNG talent has emerged in the heavyweight division, and It is making me very excited. I am proud to watch the new crop of heavyweight contenders. These guys are not only Young but They are very talented too, We finally have some big young guys in the division with some first class boxing skills.

We have for the Top Young Blood

    27 year old Sam Peter- 6'0 245lb

    28 Year old Alexander Potvekin - 6'2 220lb

24 Year old Southpaw Alexander Dimitrenko- 6'7 250lb

29 year old Southpaw Ruslan Chagaev- 6'1 230lb

    26 years old Eddie Chambers- 6'1 215lb

33 year old Vladimir Virchis- 6'5 245lb Not that young but Just reachins his peak, looks dangerous.

Throw in The top Veterans who are still young 7'0 325lb 33 year old Nicolai Valuev who has VASTLY improved since he fought donald back in 2005, and The Man 32 Year old Wlad Klitschko 6'6 250lb and you got yourself a decently exciting heavyweight division.

We will see what happens, Wlad has his hands full

If you want to see young up and coming fighters not listed in your above post, this thread has a few of them

I think Chagaev, Povetkin, and Peter are good heavyweights. Not sure who is the best among them. Maybe Chagaev.

I do agree that Wlad has some good guys left to fight. Hopefully he fights the winner of Chagaev vs Valuev next for a three way title unification soon, then meets Povetkin.

I see another 5 years of mediocrity,Wlad is clearly the standout ,and he is a flawed fighter,if his big brother can remain injury free ,he likely clears out the dross.Next all time great? Possibly from Africa.

I am excited heavyweight is my favorite division. I can't wait too watch these young talented guys duke it out with eachother. I am suprised you left off Dimetrenkov.......Sure he has not shown too much but he is only 24 years old, has exceptional size 6'7 250lb and I have seen film of him, He has exceptional defensive skills for a man his size, very smart fundamentally sound boxer with good handspeed. He lacks knockout power, but I think with time he can develop as a puncher.

I am still not sold on Peter, Mendoza. I watched him get outboxed and embarrassed by a 38 year old obese middleweight and got a gift decision. He was then knocked down 3 times and nearly beaten by 40 year old jameel mccline. He knocked out Oleg Masakev, but Maskaev was 40 years old and is mediocre. Peter is unproven, he is a top puncher but lacks skills speed coordination.

Vladimir Virchis looks like a top puncher

I agree that things are picking up. A fight between two young prospects, Eddie Chambers and Kevin Johnson is happening soon. Both are light hitters but good fighters. Chambers already lost a decision to Povetkin, but still has hope for a future. Kevin Johnson is still undefeated.

I am curious to see who will win between Valuev and Chagaev.

Valuev has improved DRASTICALLY. I was shocked by how much his jab and fundamental skills improved since 2005.

Yeah he's definately better than the big unskilled thug that people thought he was. I'd still like to see Chagaev retain his belt though.

I would like to see Wlad take on Valuev, Chagaev, and Potvekin. If he does that and beats all 3 convincingly, He moves into my top 20 heavyweights of all time. Right now hes slated to face some old bum Tony Thompson, hopefully its just a tuneup to a bigger fight down the road.

Yes, it seems to get better, especially now that two of the titles have been unified.

Valuev and Chagaev will soon have a rematch, should be interesting. Klitschko will have to fight the mandatory Thompson... not a bad fight, Thompson is undefeated, about Wlad's size and can crack, but also a bit slow.

I would like Povetkin to stay active and continue his habbit of fighting (semi) top opponents. Rahman would be a good choice at this point, Golota would be fun while it lasted and get him some experience.

I am sold on Peter being a legit top 3 ranked fighter. He throws straigher shots these days.

Dimitrenko to me is a good fighter. Good enough to UD Valuev on points. Also good enough to beat Chagaev is Chagaev does not press the action. While Dimitrenko has the talent, he doesn't have a top punch, and isn't agressive. I'd pick Peter, Chagaev, and Povetkin over Dimiretnko.

Virchis is an upset guy. A pure puncher type. I've seen him KO a guy with a jab, a head snapping uppercut, and a crushing right hand. Virchis can take a good punch too. On the downside his defense is just ok, and he isn't fast. But if he lands his best.....

He's a bit like a lesser version of Foreman.

He might punch harder than anyone in the division (including Klitschko), but he is rather slow and his defence isn't worth writing home about either. Interesting fighter to have in the division, but if he's gonna have succes, it probably won't last long.

When was the last time the standing out fighter wasn't flawed? Lewis wasn't focused every time, Holyfield was inconsistent, Tyson too had his off nights, Holmes was weak to the right hand, Foreman had all sorts of flaws, Frazier could only fight one way and with one arm, etc etc.

the heavies are very under-rated at this time. all they need are more fights among the top fighters.... more often.
