i dont want to sound like a pessimist but the hw division is far from being exciting to me. peter is probably the most exciting, he has good power and has the ability to be beat. the others though semi talented, are just not very entertaining. i dont need a few decent fighters to get me excited, i want one dominant exciting flashy guy to come out dominate everyone and have people look at him and say "hes gonna be a great" and then if other greats wanna join in i will be a very happy boxing fan : )

I think David Haye is a better shout here than a lot of the guys on your list. He may make some noise.

the hw division isnt as bad as people make it out to be. it doesnt lack skill but excitment. the euro fighter are more fundamentally sound and not reckless like a guy like holyfiled, bowe, tyson, etc....less fan friendly.

on top of that, we Americans are bias so we will usually dismiss the euros no matter how good they are

people want to see wars so when they dont get em, they hate on the fighters even though there is good skill.

wlad is supremely skilled. guys like iggy, povetkin, chagaev and haye are very good as well. valuev is more of a side show and is a bit overrated now.

If Dimitrenko looks good to somebody, I suggest you watch more of him, to rid of this illusion. He looked ludicrous even against some tomato cans.

neuther Lewis ,Foreman ,or Holyfeild had three inside the distance defeats on their record before they were universaly recognised as the best.Wlad can only beat whats out there and Imo whats out there is pretty poor,I see no one on his resume who is even very good, its true Lewis got complacent and was kod by Rahman and McCall ,but I would make prime versions of either a lock to clean up Wlads challengers.Ever wonder why so many old heavyweights are still around? And still getting high profile fights its because the division stinks Maskaev,Mcline,Golota, etc, all yesterdays men still competitive with what should be a new generation,of shining talent Wlad is a big fish in a pond of minnows he has fought no one of real consequence some old men ,some mismatches and a couple of timid so sos,,add in a crude clubber who was dropped by a 40 year old ,and whose skills make Bruno look like Gene Tunney ,what have you got? Mediocrity.

I like Haye and think he will be a welcome addition to the heavyweight division, but for the life of me the hype around this guy is crazy. Haye has not proven much at heavyweight. His power will not look as good moving up in class, and his chin and stamina, which were masked by his skills, and power at curser weight will be even bigger question marks at heavyweight. Haye looks like a KO waiting to happen if you ask me. He was stunned and cut in 1 1/2 round of action in his last fight vs a guy that would be meat if he was a heavyweight. I think Chagaev, Povetkin, and Peter are defenetly better heavies than Haye is.

Certainly, its too early to call him a real threat,he hasnt beaten a heavyweight of any note, but he is a welcome addition to a somewhat lack lustre division,we will have to wait and see how his chin holds up when the big boys start bouncing wallops off it.

His chin and stamina will be a bit of a weakness.... but he is very fast and powerful. Sounds a bit like a smaller version of Wladimir actually.
But he already came into the ring at ~210, 215 pounds and could carry a bit more, i don't think he'll be undersized for most of the heavies.

I think the Heavyweight division has plenty of talent, what's holding it back is not getting the best matches made. As that improves, I think you'll see the division magically get "better".

I also agree with the poster that said Virchis is basically Foreman Lite. That's a great comparison.

Yes, he's 6'3". A lot of people don't realise the size of most heavyweight. They call guys like Povetkin and Haye "too small" while both were as big as or slighty bigger than Ali and Holmes.

If David Haye had come allong in the 1930s he would have been a big heavyweight. Without a cruiserweight division he would have started out in the high 190s and filled out to about 210, which on a 6' 3'' frame would have been a fair physical specimine.

Now if Chris Byrd had come allong in that period he would not have been much bigger than Tommy Loughran, perhaps anut 185, and would have been seen as a small heavyweight who couldnt break an egg even then.

Not everything in black and white makes sense.

Very true ,Loughran said he had bad hands and was afraid to tak the chance of reinjuring them ,going for the ko,but essentially he was a left jab artist .Max Baer was seen as Hercules ,very wide shoulders tiny waist , 6 2 1/2 210 yet he is smaller than Haye, same with Holyfield, the modern heavies are just so big and better coordinated that you wonder about small heavies against them.

His connect against the White Wolf was something like 235/400.

And I'm sure he's been mentioned but David Haye moving up to HW could be interesting.

Depends which modern heavies you mean.

Some of them are darn impresive physical specimines while some are just fat. We have a situation today where you can squash a guy the size of Max Baer down to cruiserweight on the one hand while a guy the size of Ezzard Charles can bulk up to 210 lbs on the other.
