With the rise of Deontay Wilder, the upcoming fight with Tyson Fury and Wlad Klitschko, the theatrics of Shannon Briggs, and the return of David Haye the HW division may be on it's way back to former glory. Here are some of my reason's why the HW division is the greatest. 1.No dehydrating or cutting unnecessary amounts of water weight. 2. No where to run as far as moving weight classes or bringing up smaller fighters to beat. Nope. You gotta fight another big man with the skills you have. 3. Always action. HW fights as of late have been over looked worldwide because it does not have the spokeman that it had in the past to promote it. There are still great fights out there that happen every month. 4. The ultimate move up division. Micheal Spinks moved up from Light-Heavy weight to Heavy Weight and beat Larry Holmes ruining his chances at matching Marcianos undefeated record and putting his name in the history books. Evander Holyfield moved up from a total domination at LHW to HW and became a household name fighting Douglas, Foreman, Holmes, Bowe, Czyz, Tyson, Moorer, Lewis, Toney, Rahman, and Byrd. Will the new crop of fighters at 175 and 200 take the challenge and test their skills at Heavyweight?
Not in my opinion, full of subpar guys who avoid each other and hope to land a payday with Wlad, Tyson Fury case in point. Oh and Wilder is one of the biggest of jokes in the sport, the way he's parading his "title" with the whole American champion bull****, fighting just awful opponents.
If its so sub par why do we have weight division's? Get these little men to fight the heavy's and see how good they are. IMO 135 lbs should be the lightest division, grown men are bigger then that. Who the **** wants to see dwarfs boxing. Rigo and chocolito etc have no entertainment value what so ever, and if they are good enough they should be able to fight at 135 anyway.
Whilst the HW division does have a certain intrigue, i prefer the lighter weights; more skill, speed, guys actually have foot work and fighters don't gas after throwing more than 20 punches a round.
It's all relative. Obviously Gonzalez could not beat a HW, but, watch one round of one of his fights against another man his size and you see more skills in that round than you would in 12 rounds of a modern day HW boxing fight.
Cruiserweight has been much better than heavy for years, the best cruisers would be competitive with any of the top10 at heavy bar Klitschko Haye, Adamek, Huck, Cunningham & Briedis all performed well when they stepped up, Usyk will do the same HW has been dreadful for ages, no depth, boring fights & a general lack of quality
You know that the complete CW division should be added to the HW one comparing old eras right? And all the bigger CW's (the guys you just mentioned) at least in the last decade.
You're missing out then, because 2 of the most exciting fighters, and most skilled in the sport are below 135 in Chocolito and Lomanchenko.
