Is it looking better or are they all still fat lazy sluggers?

This is my outlook on the current fighters in the division.

    Champions

    Wladimir Klitschko
Top notch heavyweight who i can hardly see losing against anyone currently in the division. Based on styles, perhaps someone like Boytsov or in shape Arreola/Solis would have a chance. Haye would be interesting, but i can't see his chin holding up. Ofcourse a fight with Vitaly would be close. Chambers is a good matchup for Wlad in terms of styles and i can't see him struggling with any thing other than his defense.

    Vitali Klitschko
Did win a shutout against Kevin Johnson, but didn't impress really and speculation that he has lost 1-2 % may not be off. I can see Wlad beating him and a couple of the top contenders (Haye, Povetkin, Boytsov, Chambers) may have a 20-30 % chance.

    Contenders

    Alexander Povetkin
Won, but suffered a minor setback against Chambers as his lacking in defensive areas were somewhat exposed (to use a ESB term) and since then he has been moved along slowly. He could be in line for a challenge against Wlad sometime next year. I can only see one outcome in that fight, unless Povetkin has some rare iron chin. Wlad KO. I won't write him 100% off though, you never know if Atlas gives him some wicked Tyson style that brings him to the top.

    Eddie Chambers
Has obvious talents in defense, hand speed and skill, but also has a low workrate which lost him the fight against Povetkin, even when he was dominating in terms of skill and pure boxing. Looked much better against Dimitrenko who has a slighly similar style to that of Wladimir. Still, Chambers is a perfect matchup for Wlad and this is a more than hard fight for Chambers. Even if he loses (and i think he will), i can still se him beating anyone else in the division on his day.

    Ruslan Chagaev
It was all looking bright and fine when beat Valuev, but then what happened? He looked far from impressive in beating Skelton and Drumond, before taking a beating against Wlad. Still, a top notch contender in the division having beaten Valuev, Ruiz, Virchis, Skelton and Drumond.

    David Haye
Has one big win in the heavyweight division as he took a clear win (IMO) against reigning WBA champion Nikolay Valuev, though without entertaining as he boxed very cautiously from the outside, potshotting and countering to win rounds. He showed his power in stunning the much bigger man in the 12th. The fight with Ruiz will provide alot of answers, i believe.

    Chris Arreola
Has the raw talent, but needs to stop eating and start training if he wants to be a serious threat. He does have the potential to be though. He fought Vitali and showed a brave effort as he didn't hide or run, but came right at him. He went out with his honour intact. Hopefully he can lose that weight, because i feel his style might give Wlad fits.

    Nikolay Valuev
The tallest heavyweight champion in history will always attract attention and interesting matchups, but he can definately be outboxed and it seems his power is not what it could be, with the frame at hand. Even so, his extreme height makes him such an akward opponent and he will always overcome the fringe contenders of the division.

    Prospects

    Denis Boytsov
23 years old, with all the time in the world and a huge potential, this young russian is definately someone to keep an eye on. A future step-up should be very interesting

    Tomasz Adamek
Former Light-Heavyweight and Cruiserweight champion looked good against shot Golota and mediocre against the tricky Estrada who looked at his best ever. He did edge the fight and i feel we have yet so see the best of Adamek who still has to be considered a prospect in the heavyweight division.

    Odlanier Solis Fonte
Read Arreola. Could be so much, but needs to lose weight.

    Robert Helenius
Not the most elegant looking guy ever, but his punches are excellent. Fast, hard, ripping and precise. And what a resume for a guy with 11 fights. Brewster, Gammer and Bidenko looks good on any resume.

    Alexander Ustinov

    Kubrat Pulev

    Fransesco Pianeta

    Kubrat Pulev

    Derek Chisora

    Tyson Fury

    Fringe contenders

    Tony Thompson
38 years old, but still a threat to most top guys. Lost his only so far shot at the big stage against Wladimir.

    Samuel Peter
It's very up and down with this guy. He can look like the most skilled guy in dominating James Toney only to get knocked out by a guy who hasn't fought for three years. Very dangerous, nonetheless.

    John Ruiz
Very unpopular due to his clinching ways and tendency to get another title shot over and over. Guess who he is fighting next? WBA champion David Haye. Tricky fighter who spoils and ruins most things for most fighters.

    Alexander Dimitrenko

    Ray Austin

    Vladimir Virchis

    Kevin Johnson

    David Tua

    Jason Estrada

    James Toney

Well, i pretty much just felt like doing this. Hope it creates some debate.

Great post man. The division has lots of competitive matchups to offer.

Helenius certainly has an impressive resume, you didn't mention Pulev's though.

Kubrat Pulev (5-0 3KO) Skelton, Oloukun, Page. Talk about fast tracking, him and Helenius are really moving quick.

Alot of the criticism on the division is just because the Klitschko's are a level above everyone else. There is good talent in the division and aside from those 2 everyone else in the division is very competitive with eachother.

It's still as bad as ever. Wake me up in about 10 years and maybe all these bums will be gone by then and we'll have a new crop of decent heavies.

    I agree with Vysotzky.

Pulev is a decent allrounder with personality but is only a moderate puncher.

David Price easily beat Tyson Fury as an amateur and has Olympic Bronze. A little chinny but super tall.

Deontay Wilder and Tor Hamer are also good prospects.

I maintain that Dimitrenko is nothing and Boytsov is all speculation no record.

I don't see any big matchup from that list except for:
    V Klitschko - W Klitschko
    Haye - Klitschko

Anything else is just a freakshow or a borefest and not worth watching...

Wake me up when a young HW fighter with proper speed, power, stamina and chin stands up.

I just scanned real quick, so there may be more I disagree with, but I wouldn't put Tony Thompson as a fringe contender. Outside of the Klitschkos he's in the Top 2-3 in the division, imo.

That just shows how ignorant you are. Taking out the Klitschko's from the equation.

    Povetkin
    Haye
    Boytsov
    Chambers
    Arreola
    Adamek
    Solis

All these guys are in the same size range (aside from Arreolla & Solis being overweight) skill range and would make for very exciting fights.

These heavies below are all interesting and would provide exciting fights vs eachother or any of the above mentioned too.

    Helenius
    Pulev
    Tua
    Peter

you need to put Deontay Wilder on the prospects list, the guy was the least experienced fighter on the US Olympic team and managed to snag a bronze, that shows something. Once Vitali retires, he could become a force.

Both Klitschkos are easily in the top six or eight of the past 30 years.
