Good point. As it has been for the last two-three decades, with the biggest fights often not being made or being made too late, something has to change radically for anyone to be able to put together a record to rival that of Ali or Louis.

My lineage of greatest heavyweight would be :

    Joe Louis
    Jack Dempsey
    Jim Jeffries

And I cant really ascertain who was greatest before Jeffries came along.

    Yeah, probably.
Jeffries' record is pretty hard to find fault with. He went unbeaten, and beat some great ones.

Dempsey, i just prefer him to Johnson (and Jeff).

Anybody considers Marciano as the GOAT between Louis and Ali?

Kind of hard to envision anybody else but Ali or Louis for me.

Yes indeed. The disgusting racist colour bar of the times stopped many potentially great fighters gaining recognition.

    Good question.

I think that Tyson was poised to replace him before he departed from the script in Tokyo.

Had he extended his rampage where he was knocking everybody out for a few more years he probably would have sliped into the slot rightly or wrongly.

The next GOAT will probably be a Tysonesque fighter who holds it together for a longer period.

Joe Louis did say Marciano was the greatness of all time(Which sort of counts I suppose between the Louis and Ali thing.)

Not sure it would count because this is more a media trend, and Louis has a right of his own options.

If any one has the computer fights, Go to Marciano vs ANY ONE, and if you didnt know who Louis was, one would have think he was Q lol.
