    Folks,

I got some of my old tapes out, and so I have "Page-Spoon 2" rolling from 1999 out in Virginia.

WTF? Tim Spoon looks in-shape at 237 pounds, while Greg Page looks okay at 250...

Page decked Spoon in round 1 for a flash knockdown...

Spoon's mind seemed elsewhere, while Page looked geared for revenge...

Page wins by TKO in round 8.... Spoon was pathetic here...

Did anyone else see this fight on the card with "Holmes-Smith 2"???

    I PPV'd it for 20 bucks......:deal:bbb

Haven't seen the fight, but it's an interesting result considering Page was washed-up already in the mid-late-80s, yet Witherspoon was still a contender in December 1996 (when he fought Mercer).
Obviously Witherspoon went downhill quick after the Mercer bout, and even an old fat Page was capable of effective punching.
Or maybe 'spoon bet on Page !
    A very meaningless tournament.

MRBILL, I wish you would get your old VHS collection somehow converted at uploaded !

Never seen it, Witherspoon complained of a bad back but I've no idea how much of a reason that may have been. I guess Terrible Tim just really wasn't up for it, wheras Page (bless his heart & RIP) was a real true believer at the time in his boxing career.

Witherspoon put together a real nice run in the late nineties but had just been stopped in 4 by Brian Nielsen. That's pretty demoralising! ;)

Pretty consistent to Spoons career overall just on a lower level. The guy was not the sharpest tool in the shed and he didnt seem to be motivated all the time. He could look great and then look like total crap all through his career.

He threw the fight to Nielson, just like all of Nielsons other high profile wins.

By the time two guys get to that stage in their life anything can happen. I wouldn't read too deeply into it.

Page probably wanted it more than Witherspoon, and probably, at least in his own mind, felt that the first fight was a fluke.

I thought Spoon fought Mercer to a solid draw in 1996. Mercer was lucky to get the win over 10 even rds of see-saw action... WORD!:hey

Spoon came back in '97 and smoked Levi Billups like a Thai Stick... But then he went to hell when he lost to Andy Golota in Poland... After his loss to Golota, Spoon became an official "Hanger-On" just milking the bidness for the money...

Page was listed at age 39 and tipped 250 pounds on the scale, while Spoon was listed at age 41 and a decent 237 pounds in 1999... Over all, Spoon looked better trained prior to the opening bell... But Page came out fast and decked Spoon early, and basically boxed a damn good fight over a passive / bored Spoon...

    Page TKO 8 Spoon....:bbb

Sure Page won this fight, but it was sad to see either of them still fighting in '99. Holmes-Smith was even worse. Holmes was 50 years old and Smith was like 45. Page then fought some some tigers for Cedric Kushner and took more unecessary punishment and ultimately got brain damage from a ring injury. He should have retired for good after he lost to Seldon in '93. He'd still be here and probably relatively healthy.

    Boza,

Don't forget that Bill Costello looked like a slob in the 150s when he won a 10 rounder over a chubby Juanito LaPorte on the same card....

I saw the evening / card as a "FUN" night for 20 bucks.....:thumbsup

I also did my '82 review of "Page-Tillis." Page looked fat again, but he beat the **** outta Jim Tillis in Texas.... This was on the undercard of "Holmes-Cobb."
