Maybe not all of them, but an investigation did show that several of his fights involved pay offs to the loser.

I don't remember who it was exactly... Someone was schooling Nielson and then mysteriously retired with a "shoulder" injury on their stool.

Nielson also "beat" Orlin Norris, who did a flop job against Vitali late in his career. :dead:huh

I never saw to this day a tape replay of Holmes' dec. loss to Nielsen back around 2000 in Denmark...... Holmes lost a split dec. overseas'.... That sounds sketchy all to hell...... Nielsen got some home cooking to the max....

He outworked Larry. At that stage of the game, the Holmes footwork and mobility was nowhere to be found and if he had to use it, it drained his gastank. So he backed himself into a corner--not the ropes--and fought out of there all night counterpunching. The trick with that tactic is to counter off misses and not counter off landed punches.

Holmes is no dummy in there. But when you are all of a sudden the guy fighting in the other guy's backyard, the crowd is going to be cheering for their guy and everything he does. And that includes ring generalship where all of a sudden Holmes is backed into a corner the whole round, instead of jabbing and circling. You take the chance of that being construed as effective aggression. That tactic worked far better for Larry against Mercer and he won the crowd over fighting from the corner on occasion. But Neilsen was busier than Ray and landed punches & Holmes could not hurt the guy to get him to pause or slow down his assault.

I have see some of Holmes-Nielsen but years and year ago. Pretty much what you'd expect, and what zadrak describes.

You could score the fight for Larry but it was kind of sad how he looked in there...a fight where no-one really deserved to be labelled a 'winner'.

What exactly did Holmes do to win the fight? Shake and wiggle his right hand like he was going to throw it in menacing fashion. When it did land, it didn't to anything to keep a guy like Neilsen away. At any rate, when you go in the lions den, you play by the lions rules. It was the first time since what Ocassio? Holmes took his act on the road and fought the hometown fighter in that guy's backyard. You have to know the scoring will not be exactly fair and you fight accordingly. I sure didn't see Holmes doing enough to win the fight under those conditions.

If it was an 82 DKP fight, Holmes wins the nod. But it wasn't.

I think the issue was Greg Page who on a good night was real good and very poor on a bad night....If Page was dedicated he could be a problem but Page was worst than Max Baer when it came to dedication and Spoon had tools but never lifted himself beyond...At there best Page was better than Spoon but Page was less consistent than Spoon if you think thats possible

Was Page's tragic fight with Dale Crowe filmed back in 2001 or was it 2002??? Is there film footage?

Yeah, it's true, Brian Nielsen's career was even more rigged than Frank Bruno's or Primo Carnera's. And he didn't have the physique to compensate.

But when his time came against Tyson, he took his lumps without complaint.

Nielsen's career is quite sad really, I'm not sure if he even knew that his opponents were taking dives. He's making a comeback against Holyfield next year, but I hear he can barely walk with his knee problems.

Witherspoon lost all his ambition after the Ray Mercer loss.

If the fight actual happens, and I wouldn't count on it, an ancient Holyfield will absolute batter the fat decrepit Nielsen.

It's actually good management on the part of Holyfield's man Ken Sanders. This is the type of fights the sentimental fans who "wish Holyfield would just retire" can rest assured that Holyfield isn't in much danger.
They'd do well to fear for Nielsen's safety though.

Unless, of course, the unthinkable, "The Real Deal" takes a dive for the fat man.

Then again, even a warrior like Holyfield's probably tanked a few in his time.

I agree that Holy at age 90 would still beat Brian Nielsen of today....... Nielsen was never in Holy's class...

Brian Nielsen was a doughboy in his prime, he must be a hefty 300 pounds in 2010...

Physique-wise he looks pretty much the same as he always did, but he also looks very old.
