It was near the end of the HBO's Tyson vs Biggs program.

 

HATE when that happens.

 

& that’s just the way Larry would want it.

 

His success in a putridly weak division for many years, combined with an unhealthy dose of denial about both his own diminished state & how good Tyson was (he despised anyone able to achieve the limelight he never could capture) made for a fatal cocktail.

I liked him well-done on the mat at the end of that fight. They needed a spatula for him.

 

Yes he was in denial but he was an excellent champion.

 

Eating pizzas for 1.5 years & then rolling off the couch 3 mos ahead of the scheduled date isn't much of an improvement.

 

True enough, but I’d only give him about 50-50 odds even at the height of his powers.

 

Buster in Tokyo was not the level of prime Holmes, folks. Just my opinion, but I've watched that Tokyo fight dozens of times and Holmes did pretty much everything better.

That's also keeping in mind that Mike was undoubtedly diminished post-Rooney. He never quite the fought the same imo.

And I'm a big fan of Mike these days, having gained a huge amount of respect for him since joining this forum.

 

The three posters who voted Larry was almost at his peak when he got torpedoed by Mike must really hate him.
