The Holyfield/Ruiz trilogy was not that boring. Seriously though the first fight was not a barn stormer but it was not what id consider a particularly terrible fight, not on the level of Gainer vs Kelly 2, Valuev vs Haye/Holyfield anyway. The second fight was actually pretty decent imo, Holyfield got dropped and it was not a bad fight down the stretch. Hopkins vs Robert Allen is a far worse trilogy imo, although i heard that Holy/Ruiz was rated as one of the worst of all time by ring magazine.
I agree, I've stated this before. The first fight was actually pretty decent, most of the rematch was slow but it did pick up in the last 3 rounds. The only fight that was absolutely horrible was the third fight. A lot of people thought Holyfield won that but most were just so happy the fight was over that they didn't care what the decision was. The most entertaining thing about that fight was Foreman and Merchant arguing.
Yeah i dont get why its hyped to be so bad tbh. I felt Holy definitely lost the first fight and im a Holy fan myself.
I think there's 12 decent rounds of action in there...just unfortunately spread out over 36. But no, not the worst I've ever seen. Not even as a heavyweight title bout, sadly.
2nd fight was great. Ruiz was a wily old fox and truly old school in his technique. Loved the sneaky right hand. Ruiz is one of the good guys in the sport and a true warrior.
These were labeled "boring" because Ruiz's hugging was still a novelty to the average fan. Compared to what would transpire in his career, these were some of Ruiz's more entertaining fights--behind the Tua fight.
Those fights were not as boring as people claim they are its just the Style of Ruiz, which IMO it was Tua who altered the style a bit and Holyfield in the first fight in round three that reminded John what he was facing fighting against Opposition on this level, ever since Ruiz has just looked to hold.....
