What really gets my goat from a film buff's point of view is that Norman Jewison, the director, was talented enough to help create 'In the Heat of the Night' - perhaps the greatest ever cinematic experience concerning racial tension and bigotry - and yet with 'The Hurricane', he managed to miss the same mark to an almost offensive degree. It's a ****ing awful film; even worse than 'Cinderella Man' or any of the Rocky sequels. The worst kind of Hollywood arse gravy masquerading as social commentary. Oh well, I'll just go back to my hovel to watch Poitier and Steiger staring each other out.....
1. Are you saying your fat? 2. you have never seen a photo of me 3. You must be a homo for even mentioning another man's build.
I bought the video back in 2000....... Den Washington was great in the role..... BUT! The film does fizzle the truth to a great degree..... After further review and reading things about Ruben Carter, I have concluded that he was not as innocent as he'd like us all to believe...... I'm not saying he made the killings back in the 1960s that sent him away for ever and a day, but Carter was guilty of lesser crimes throughout his youth..... MR.BILL:hat
In grudging fairness JG, I suppose Washington was very good as Carter. I'm a harsh man with films....
Oooh, how long have you got pal? Bad thing to ask me - I could talk a glass eye to sleep if someone gets me going about films. and I don't want to send the thread off on some random tangent. I'll drop you a PM ..... But my favourite boxing film is probably Fat City. Real little underrated gem, that one - old Johnny Huston could still make 'em even when he was getting on in years.....
1. I'm saying you've got the muscle of a 5yo 2. Yes, I'm saying you've got the muscle of a 5yo 3. No, I'm worried you've got the muscle of a 5yo, skinny homo
There's another epic big-screen melodrama about a boxer, and co-starring Rod Steiger (barely recognized him as the judge...amazing that he was still acting in '99), that is not only 100,00x better than the Hurricane but is also probably one of the top ten movies ever made (for me, anyway). Who can name it?
Rodney Steiger also played a priest in Arnie Schwarz' "End Of Days" from circa-'99 or 2000 as well............ Steiger (1925-2002) died of Kidney failure at age 77.......... He was great........ MR.BILL

Just just clicking on the links. I printed it out several years ago and it came out to over 500 pages. Here it is again. http://www.graphicwitness.com/carter/ My brother-in-law went to school with Carter back in the 1950's.
