The HW division today is as weak as it was in the Lennox Lewis era?

Although the division is probably slightly weaker than the division lewis dominated, the fact that you dismiss boxers like adamek and haye as being just cruisers and too small says a lot in favour of the strength of the division

You're aware Tua and Ike were both undefeated when they met right, and it was an extremely close fight, with a record number of punches thrown for a heavyweight fight - by guys that can really crack?

Normally, when 2 undefeated guys actually get in the ring together ( a strange concept in this modern era, but believe me, it used to happen) - 1 of them will lose.

Now, if you had a time machine and could drop that version of Tua, and that version of Ike into this current heavyweight division, they would batter all but the 2 brothers senseless.

Tua was done when he fought Byrd. He had practically been bled dry by Kevin Barry by that point.

    Evander Holyfield
    Chris Byrd
    James Toney
    Roy Jones Jr.
    Michael Moorer
    Herbie Hide

All RING top 5 HWs during Lennox Lewis' era. And get this, 5 won world titles, and two were even the undisputed Champion!

Briggs just fought for a title belt very recently. And held a portion of the title recently.

when he was older and shitter than in Lewis' time.

Beating Grant (now at 38, nearly 10 years after he was apparently nothing more than a hype job) apparently meant Adamek was ready for a title shot.

I would advise you to use your eyes, not facts and figures. Watch the guys from that era fight. Then watch todays guys fight.

Ask yourself "how come fighters fighing into their late 30's and early 40's back then was a rarity, something that only guys that had been really, really, really good could do - whereas now it's commonplace?"

You really think a 37 or whatever year old Tony Thomson would get mulitple title shots back 10/15 years ago? No chance.

Not a Klitchscho hater but can't agree with you. During Lewis' era you had so many guys who were not quite at the Lewis/Bowe/Tyson/Holyfield level: Golota, Mercer, Bruno, Rahman, McCall, Morrison, ect, ect. Now you have the K brothers and everyone else...Having said that, the division will ALWAYS be my favorite. And I'll always find a heavyweight to cheer for

Holyfield. Well, ****, he's in line for a title shot now isn't he at 47?

Byrd. Yeah, fair call. Tail end of Lewis era but he was around.

Toney? That's stretching things. He started in heavy as Lewis was leaving the division. Not really around in his era at all. I'm not sure if the Holy fight was before or after Lewis retired, but this one is a real stretch.

Jones Jr. One fight vs Ruiz. I think there is a reason he didn't stick around at heavy.....

    Moorer. Yep. Former LHW too.

Herbie Hide. Could probably get a title shot these days. Despite having no chin and being insane.

Was Moorer undisputed? I didn't think he was, but I could be wrong.

Lewis' 5 best wins in no particular order:

    Holyfield
    Golota
    Ruddock
    Tua
    Klitschko

The Klit sisters aren't even in the same time zone.

Mercer that showed up to fight Lewis beats any heavyweight today(not including K brothers) division was much stronger, prime Briggs was much better than Kingpin Johnson, Eddie Chambers, Sosnowski, Arreola...seriously division cant get any worse

Prime Byrd? the same Byrd that was coming off of fights with McCline, Golota and Oquendo and arguably lost them all while getting gift decisions vs all and a draw vs an older Golota the same Golota you say sucks that LL blew out in one round.:patsch

Haye's prime is at Cruiserweight, Barret was nothing more then a fringe contender, Chambers and Ibragimov shouldve been fighting at cruiserweight and Ibragimov fought to a draw and got dropped by Ray ****in Austin:rofl.

And Chageav has aids when he fought Wlad and besides the Valuev fight he has never looked great against any decent fighter he's fought.

And McCline....... ehhh guy does yoga for ****s sake and lost to Zuri Lawrence.

It's not really that outrageous a statement to make. I think Lewis did fight somewhat better opposition, but it's not hugely better. IT's worth looking at, but the edge is still to Lewis. Let's go easy on the newbie, nurture and reform him.

That's because some people actually give rematches and some retire.

Even a guy like Tony Tucker, who was a bit past his best when Lewis fought him, would go through this bunch like a hot knife through butter.

That caliber of opponent hasn't even been mentioned here.

You think Bruno couldn't beat the snot out of guys like Chambers, Thomson, Arreola? Come on, be serious now.
