I am going to get a lot of stick for this but the nuthugging of the P4P number 2 in the world is just annoying. I am not saying Ward is not a great fighter HE IS but he is not IMO P4P No.2 and is beatable at 168. The Carl Froch Fight I think showed some of his failings, he has poor stamina, he relies on dirty tactics when anyone starts to get on top ( I think a fighter with a A class inside game has him beat) Froch has poor inside skills which is why Ward wins that match up 7 / 10 times. Looking at some of his fights he gets a LOT of leeway from the refs when fighting (likely because he fights at home all the time) the headbuts against Kessler where shocking almost on par with Hollyfield to the point where jab jab short right headbut clinch seemed to be a legitimate combination. I hope we see him get in the ring with Groves or DeGale again I know will get a lot of stick for this but they both have the skills to beat Ward, especially DeGale. The guy acts like he is the MAN in the division yet he is fast becoming a afterthought, he is ruining his own career with these law suits he has no chance of winning. he refuses to travel to fight for the big money against the likes of Froch why I dont know. He would get huge paydays and raise his profile by doing this but I guess the boy is non to smart.
Fouled his way to victory against Froch....did you watch the fight?? Ward beat Froch Bika Abraham Kessler Dawson Thats not good enough for you?
He beat more than Bika and Abraham. You are in denial. Ward as boring as he is to watch is also very skilled. Does he hold? Yep. But so do a lot of the current champs. It's the ref's job to call for excessive holding. He proved he is the best at 168 a couple of years ago. Not sure if we can keep him at the top since his inactivity is tarnishing his reputation.
This :deal Travel Take the test Fight without your ref Then I will give him some props until then I remain sceptical of the true ability of Andre Ward
Even though he's already done pretty well for himself, I had expected a fair bit more from Ward at this point. Nonetheless, although I personally find him boring to watch, he can certainly box and he's clearly the best super middle in the world right now.
Donaire was never 2nd or 3rd. Ever. The highest I've ever seen him was 6. And that was a bit premature itself.
No it isn't, if we are talking p4p, which means other fighters achievements within their respective weight classes is a factor. Apparently Froch is a poor fighter and people talk about how he was so easily schooled and not anywhere near the same league, then how can that be a good win? People need to make their minds up. If that's a good win, then Froch is a good fighter that was beaten by a better fighter, in Ward. Kessler was headbutted out of that fight. Dawson? Please! that version of Dawson was horrible and weight drained. Abraham is tough but very limited skill wise who is nothing special at 168. Froch has beaten him too and he's beaten Kessler in their rematch. None of those names gets Ward to number 2. Add the fact that he's never gone to an opponent's backyard and is not an active fighte these days, whilst other fighters on that list fighting and getting wins. How the hell does Ward remain there whilst doing F all for the past couple of years???? One win, Froch keeps him at number 2, whilst doing nothing?? Since ther super 6, Froch has destroyed Bute and beat Groves twice. Groves. The guy is keeping busy and racking up wins. This Ward hype is way way way over the top and his p4p position is pure bs!
It's just you. Everyone else recognizes him as an elite fighter of our generation and the I'd favor him over everyone from 160 to 175.
How can you guage someones ability by Travelling Taking the test Fighting without your ref? Its no wonder YDKSAB
100% with you here. I was thinking of writing this thread. He's a dirty fighter, excessively clinches, headbutts and time wastes. Little knock out power. I wouldn't ever give Froch probable odds of beating him, but I also don't think he'd beat Froch 1000/1000 times as many on this forum believe. He beat Froch decisively, but it's not like it was a one sided beat down. I would give Froch a small but credible chance of beating him in a rematch. Andre Ward is the best at 68 and his resume is impressive insofar as he's been been through the super 6 and never come close to losing, but I don't think of him as being untouchable or can't conceive of him losing. He has a lot more work to do if he wants to get in the HoF.
That's all well and good, if he actually fought anyone. Truth is he likes opponents who he can look good against. Hell he had every card in his favour in the super 6 too, never had to leave Oakland, expect for the final, whilst others had to travel. He also fought one fight less compared to the rest.
