Young dudes mouths have habitually written checks their asses couldnt cash for our entire history. The slice of humble pie they get for it shouldnt ve death or irreversible injury. This is a SERIOUS sport, if hes having doubts id rather see him say so and step back and develop. He is really really talented but the kid has some serious work to do to realize his potential, as @bandeedo ppointed out. Just because he might hace been drunk on his own koolaid doesnt mean he should be a sacrificial lamb. We've had two deaths in the sport already recently, we dont need another.

This is not a good situation for Lopez. He wants to be a world champion. He wants to fight Loma. Now this is a huge piece of puzzle that he needs to place. So far he made a good choice to choose his career path through the IBF ranking. But as an organization that strictly adheres to its regulation and principal, IBF is always serious and never playing around when it comes to mandatory. This is now or never for Lopez to step up.

Anyway, it's quite amusing to see the kid and his father who talk a lot now seems to be reluctant facing probably the biggest challenge of his career. Not because of injuries, but because of family issue. It's all up to him to 'man up' to sort all of his issues and take the fight. Commey is no joke, he must prepare.

Good post. In all honesty, I would actually prefer to see Lopez withdraw from mandatory consideration and allow Commey to pursue an exemption for a unification fight with Lomachenko in December-ish.

Lomachenko isn't getting any younger, and the sooner he collects the IBF and WBC straps at 135lbs, the sooner he can move back down to 130lbs and clean out the more attractive super featherweight division.

There is no way Loma is going to move back down. He will settle at 135 and the guys at 130 will eventually move up.
And then there will always be the possibility of moving up again. I would be shocked if Loma ends his career without a fight at 140.

If he's not mentally 100% he should reconsider. Regardless Loma takes the winner.

Lol at everybody now saying he should reconsider, take care Timo, do it when you’re ready. There hasn’t ever been a guy as vocal about talking trash about the champ as Timo at such an early stage. This clown is doing a Fortnite dance over opponents and we have people saying “This is a serious sport, if he’s not ready he should wait”.
This is a sport and every fighter knows the dangers from the get go. It’s hilarious that people are now making excuses for him and telling him to slow down, when a few fights ago they were saying that Lomachenko was ducking this young beast.
I look forward to seeing this guy convulsing on the canvas, I don’t care who sends him there. The sooner this young turd is humbled and pushed out of the sport the better, he can serve as a lesson to every other young moron and his father who talks like this. We’re worried about this guy when he disrespects the sport and the established fighters in it? Give me a break.

A part of "Team Lomachenko" or Top Rank management, are we??

Lomachenko himself has said 135lbs is not his best weight and that he is considering a move back to 130lbs.

I think that the kid is ready. If he is offered the fight I think that he takes it and stops Commey. I don’t trust Commeys style. But he does have the experience.

I know what he has said, but I don't see it happening.

I can easily see it happening. Lomachenko, like many of these eastern Euros, is a belt collector. Within the next 6 months, he'll likely be the undisputed champion at 135lbs, following victories over Campbell and Commey/Lopez. Unless Mikey Garcia moves down or agrees to a catch weight fight, I simply do not see him hanging around, squandering the remainder of his prime fulfilling his mandatories for four different sanctioning bodies.

Could he move up to 140lbs and fight Pac in a money grab/legacy fight? Sure. Could he grab a belt at 140lbs? Sure, if he is matched correctly. Nevertheless, and despite his enormous skill, he's unlikely to unify at junior welter. Yet, at 130lbs, a weight he can still make reasonably comfortably, he has very attractive fights with Berchelt and Tank Davis, among others. Why would he wait for them to move up, when he could move down and potentially clean out another weight class??

Pretty much how I see things going, but I think the challenges are gonna move up to 135.
But it would something else if Loma just moved back down after unifying. Would be one heck of a statement.

I agree. I picked Lopez by KO. But seeing him backtrack like this is pathetic.
