Would you rather have Deontay Wilder's body or Tyson Fury? I think Tyson Fury displayed that you don't have to be body beautiful to be a world class athlete. Skills, grit and toughness are the most important qualities to win a match. I'm also sure the layer of fat also helps with absorbing punches. Should we all strive to have Tyson Fury's body?
Definitely not Wilder. Stick thin legs, stick thin upper body, terrible stamina.. Fury has both fat and muscle. His fat protects him from body punches and he has extremely good stamina. His legs are also thicker.
I mean, he's heavyweight champion of the world... It's not like boxing is a very sedentary sport, and people who haven't trained specifically for boxing would struggle mightily even to spar 12 rounds. Athletes come in different shapes and sizes: look at a 100m sprinter versus a marathon runner, versus a shot putter versus a gymnast.
I'd say it's good to have some fat on you just for the energy reserves. Ioka and Chocolatito are good examples of guys in the lower weight clases with a bit of healthy chub on em. They tend to have a tireless workrate even though their comparatively ripped opponents would be thought to be the physically fitter. Remember, a six pack only really means that you've starved yourself enough to have those fat levels or you took some roids of course.
Being fat is only possible if you don't have to worry about weight limits. Fury probably has the lean body weight as someone like wilder and aj, but an extra 40 lbs of padding. A fat 147er would get eaten alive by someone like spence
Not true, the main reason guys don't have fat on them in the lower weight classes is because they're mostly focused on packing as much muscle on as possible for the weight class they're in. Muscle has the added advantage of holding water unlike fat does so more muscle means more water weight to cut as well. It also tends to be hard to hold onto fat in such a cardio intensive sport.
Seriously, I think michael bisping said the worst thing a young fighter could do is balloon in weights between fight. Ik he's ufc but same concept applies to boxing
Maybe with the influx of mma fans? Its seriously reminding me of an unnamed mma forum that sounds similar to sheepdog.
