someone that would positively promote this sport to casual and non sports fan around the world.

i was thinking about this alot, to me it would be a boxer that has a combination of accomplishments, clean living, well spoken, bright, good looking, proffesional, likeable personality... that would be the ideal represenatitive to me of this sport.

so i was thinking a 30's ali, who was very likeable, good looks and of course has some of the greatest accomplishments of all time. but i notice he goes off on tangents alot, has issues with politics, bad mouthed fighters, etc.

my best guess for the ideal representative for boxing representative would be,

    kostya tszyu
    jermain taylor
    wladimire klitschko
    virgill hill
    wayne mccoullugh
    barry mcguigan
    oscar dela hoya

i thought vernon forrest would be perfect by the way he presented himself right after the mosley fights but he kinda changed.

i would go with virgil hill, i thought he was very well spoken, likeable, very humble and proffesional not to mentioned very accomplished.

who would be the ideal representative for proffesional boxing?

He hasn't always lived clean, but otherwise Alexis Arguello is a near perfect choice, and actually was credited as being a great ambassador for the sport in his time at the top.

Virgil Hill is a very good choice. In Germany the guy who represents boxing nowaday is Henry Maske, before him it was always Max Schmeling, even when he already was ancient but during the 90s Maske took the "burden" of him and is quite good at doing that job also I personally don´t like him.

despite his past drug problem SRL would be the perfect guy to represent boxing.

Talking about him in the other thread: Lennox Lewis fits there.

Of the past: Joe Louis definitly. What about Harold Johnson? Never heard anything bad about him but then I don´t know that much about him.

He'd have to be a great fighter, a great champion, someone who has integrity in and out of the ring and the smarts for something other than just the sweet science. What we don't want is a plastic figurehead, a phony who plays a part he thinks he's obligated to play. This last thing we need is another guy in any sector of public life who doesn't have the courage to speak his mind, for fear of how it will play out in the media and negatively effect his earning power.

He, along with this management and broadcaster RTL, made boxing what it is now in Germany. He was the most popular fighter since Bubi Scholz in the 50s/60s and everybody else was just in his shadow like Dariusz Michaelchewski, who fought his whole career with the exception of his last fight for Germany in Germany, the Rocchigiani brothers, Ottke, Beyer and so on. Even so most of them were even more successful than him.

Maske´s fight at Saturday evening shortly before midnight were watched by 12-15 million households. We have around 50 million housholds over here. Not even the Klitschkos, who are also ver big here, do that, they are doing around 10 million. That should tell you how big that guy was - and still is. His fight with Virgil Hill was the most seen sport event that wasn´t football (soccer), also he didn´t fight for 10 years.
But then, a second tier mw like Sebastian Sylvester is watched by 4.5 million housholds at saturday midnight.
