Are seriously discrediting the masterful performance Hopkins displayed last night. At 43 and coming off a loss he dominated the 26 year old top MW in the world. He went 12 rounds against a heavy puncher with a high output and never got caught flush once. Hopkins effectively negated every major weapon Pavlik has; solid jab, high workrate, and bludgeoning straight right. Pavlik is an talented, exciting young fighter and arguably the top MW in the world, no one can rank him lower than #2. He received a boxing lesson last night from one of the best to ever step into the ring. Those quick to call the guy a bum only insult the exceptional feat Hopkins pulled off and expose themselves as mentally lacking.
Fully agree. On this site, I have noticed that many guys never seem to give a masterful performance the credit it deserves. They merely dismiss it by saying the opponent was a bum. :-( Pavlik was Pavlik. Its just that Hopkins was that much better and more skilled. The outcome was not due to Pavlik being less than he ever is, Hopkins is that much more of a skillled boxer, period. Give credit where credit is due. :good
Sadly, that's the nature of sports fans. Pavlik was very hyped before this fight. Many thought he would steamroll Hopkins and got the crap kicked out of him. A backlash is to be expected. Look how many people call Calzaghe a bum and he's 36 and still undefeated. Dawson was labeled a hypejob after winning a close fight.
:good I'll admit, I never expect this to be the outcome. But calling Pavlik a bum is just stupid and Hopkins showed us all why he IS one of the best to ever lace up the golves!
I couldn't agree more. Anytime an undefeated fighter of high caliber gets beat...everyone is quick to label him a bum or "getting exposed". Now if Pavlik had lost to a guy like Zertuche in that fashion....then yeah...he would've been "getting exposed". But Hopkins put on a clinic like he has many times before, and theres no reason to say Pavlik is a bum from this loss.
he's no bum its just shown how over hyped he was, he's still a very good fighter and joint no1 with abraham at middle and top 5 in super middle
I don't think any of those people, actually like this sport. I wouldn't call them real fans, that's for sure. Hell Hopkins spoke kindly of Pavlik afterwards (I think his judgment means more then jealous little kids)..
Pavlik aint no bum but he was certainly over-rated. Hopkins put on a masterclass last night though. That could be B-Hops crowning achievement, like Ali win against Foreman, he beat the young up and comer and the end of his career. Or is that taking it too far? lol
