I know he's a decent enough fighter with some good attributes but i'm not sure he's much more. He gets a lot of props on this forum but what has he actually done? He wins the middleweight titles as an undefeated fighter against Taylor and then beats him again on points in a rematch but we've learned a lot more about JT since then. He then gets owned by Bernard. No shame in losing to a great fighter but he lost bad, real bad to a man a decade older, i mean little Winky Wright looked better against Hopkins and he should never of been fighting at that weight. Now he's back after a couple of wins against average opposition and some time off with injuries, its about time he shows us something against Martinez to be worthy of the recognition he recieves because so far his achievments seem over rated in my opininion.

No, he is not over-rated. Virtually everybody on ESB thinks he is over-rated, so he can't be over-rated. In fact, half of ESB thinks that Paul Williams would beat him.

    Same here honestly.

He has not accomplished anything since beating Taylor.

He better look impressive against Martinez.

Pavlik is orthodox, but he is strong, powerful, knows how to get his shots in and has achieved a very impressive level of domination at Middleweight, with nobody lasting past 10 rounds with him at the limit. I can't think of any other fighter in the sport who can literally take punches for fun from his opposition.

Pavlik beats Winky, Sturm and Froch but loses to Abraham, Ward and Williams.

He is an elite fighter, but maybe not top 20 pound for pound.

2/3 years ago he was the poster boy of many an esb member.

now most threads about him involve people doing nothing but giving him **** about his career to date and his ability.

yeah he's gotta step it up but he's a million miles from overrated right now.

the new Ring magazine with Tim Bradley on the cover has an in-depth article pitting Pavlik against the Top 10 Middleweights. They have him KOing Paul Williams in 6 or 7 (I forget which) and winning a controversial decision over Sergio Martinez. I skimmed through the rest of the article, so maybe someone can post what I missed.

    Williams? :patsch

Seriously, I would be astonished if Williams lasted more than 3 rounds against Pavlik. He wears his guard around his ankles, exposes his chin to the world and stands in front of his opponents like a zombie. No way he gets past 3 against a bigger, stronger, tougher and fundamentally more skilled pressure fighter.

Top 10 Middleweights around now? Is that not a bit of a non-issue? Martinez aside, who is there at 160 that could pose a threat?

he's not over-rated...he's unfulfilled. most of this board thinks anyone from 147-168 would just need to show up and they would win.

his career post-taylor has been a disappointment...not only to fans but kelly too. he has time to turn that around..

pre-hopkins he was overrated. post hopkins he's underrated. and if you are going to say that you arent talking about the fighter just his accomplishments post-taylor...no one, including kelly, thinks rubio, lockett and espino is a hof resume

Kelly has had the staph infection kill off a year of his career. Let's not jump the gun here.
