“It was an easy night’s work beating the 2012 fighter of the year Nonito Donaire on April 13th but beating Mares will be even easier,” said Rigondeaux. “I have already beaten Mares in the Pan American Games by a wide points margin of 17-7 but with the headgear off and these small gloves I will knock him out. However, if he wants to step up to the big time he should take this challenge. I’m sure my promoters can make it financially worthwhile for him and for Golden Boy. Of course, if he simply wants to be an undercard fighter and not rise to this challenge, that is his right but all will know then that he is afraid to fight me.”

  2. Can't wait to see Rigo bless someone with an ass whoppin again. Anyone else find it funny how Donaire said to Rigo "hit me in the eye" and in the 12th Rigo busted his ****ing eye lmao

What did Marroquin do against Rigo? Wobbling him a couple times ? Instead Rigo gave him a boxing lesson and dropped him twice. Marroquin was a huge SBW with 4 inches and 12 lbs advantage over Rigo. I really hope Santa Cruz could fight Rigo but I'm sure gbp will keep him away from that possibility.

He got confused with Nestor Ponce de Leon, a Cuban intellectual and active fighter against Spain in the 19 century.

    Nobody beats Rigo.

Garcia, Mares, Santa Cruz, Darchinyan, Russel Jr., and John would be good fights that would get Rigo the recognition/money he deserves. I say fight Garcia then jump ship to Golden Boy to get the other fights.

He doesn't care to fight at 126.

    Team Rigo:

"We have considered several options, and none of them are being discarded and we could even make a fight at 124 pounds - if any of the top 126-pounders think he can defeat Rigondeaux. We spoke to Rigondeaux's training team and they believe that stepping up to the featherweight division would be giving away too many advantages and the option of 124 seems more realistic to try to balance the weight advantages."

    Mikey Garcia:

"Rigondeaux can stay at 122 if he wants to, but there probably aren’t many fights there for him. So he might also decide to move up. If he wants to move to 126, I’m good to go for a fight with Rigondeaux.”

Too bad "Afraid" Mares isn't under the same banner as Mikey. That would be made next. Instead, his scared ass will just wait on.. Gary Russell Jr?

So if Mares-Rigondeaux were to fight, where would the winner then rate on all your 'mythical' P4P lists? They're both already top five as far as I'm concerned.

The winner will be no doubt a solid first 3 p4p

Kid Cubano, do you keep in touch with people from Cuba still? I just got back from two weeks there and I was talking to some of the people in Santa Clara about Rigo.. many of them had seen the fight (the more affluent ones with access to DVD players). They were kind of shocked some white dude from Canada knew who "El Chacal" was.:lol:

If Rigondeaux wins, that will be a second Top 5 fighter within 12 months. I had Moreno top ten when Abner beat him. Given Guillermo's skill set as well, I'd probably have to put him at #1. Especially if Floyd fights Alexander or some ****.
