His own corner told him not to fight scared. He was gun shy vs a Cruiserweight journeyman.

This was after the third. And then he shut down again.
It was a fair decision and his career is not going far. Sparring partner mentality.

I can't agree. This was a SD loss not a KO loss, besides this was a very close fight. Draw would be fair.

    Id like to argue.
The way they both looked, it was obvious as to who was the better fighter, but there seems to be a mental issue.
He just would let his hands go. It was a clear cut loss to a Cruiserweight journeyman. And not because the journeyman was actually better, but because Gimbatov seems to have a sparring partner mentality.

But how many people would pick Gimbatov to lose a rematch?

That's right. It's not like Miguel Berchelt's career was halted when he was TKOed in round one by Luis Florez.

I suspect Gimbatov would do better if he moved to Germany, UK or USA. I have a feeling he has too many distractions living and training at home. If he had to focus 100% on boxing he would probably be better off. That's why Ibragimov trained in Florida. Gimbatov should at least have his training camps away from all the distractions friends and neighbors present.

Still haven't watched the fight yet, but when Gimbatov fought Joe Joyce in final of the European Games he showed a lot of heart and a very stout set of whiskers. He ran out of gas (no pun intended) in that one and took some very heavy clean shots to the head. In fact, he had to be taken into hospital for scans and was kept in over night for observation afterwards due to the punishment he received in that fight. But even though he was clearly very tired indeed he still kept plugging away trying to win and I didn't see any signs of quit in him.

Russian boxer taken to hospital with head injuries

BAKU (Reuters) - Russian boxer Gasan Gimbatov was taken to hospital on Friday after suffering head injuries during his gold medal bout against Britain’s Joe Joyce at the inaugural European Games.

Gimbatov won silver in the super heavyweight division but was unable to attend the medal ceremony having been taken to hospital for scans after he was struck with a string of powerful blows in the second round of his defeat by Joyce.

”We sent the boxer to hospital No.1 for examination by a neurologist for possible head trauma and concussion,” Gunay Ibrahimov, chief medical officer at the Crystal Hall venue told reporters.

“The CT scans have revealed no major findings, but the boxer is being kept in hospital overnight for observation.”

I knew about this. I watched the fight when it was happening. He showed heart of a lyon by trying to find a way to win and catching return fire from Joyce. But Joyce definitely felt his power as well.....

Yes he did so it's a bit perplexing why, if as has been suggested, he was found wanting in those departments in his last fight. Joyce is a big, strong dude with heavy hands and Gimbatov ate some really big shots in their fight and didn't stop trying even when he was running on empty.

I think nothing is over for Gimbatov. Quick fight in February against Secola and after that March or April return.

Well... he only has 4 fights under his belt.
He just wouldnt let his hands go against a mediocre journeyman. Ive seen better effort is sparring.
Heck, i myself have given more of an effort in sparring.

Fight was a draw. He definitely is better than Izu Ugunoh and will go further, but the rest remains to be seen.

With Egis Klimas as a manager and RCC as a promoter Gimbatov can go far.

Well, Gimbatov still has life in his run. Romanov looks much better and has speed and power, besides he has untouchable 400 amateur fight experience.

I would rate Russian heavies like this:

    1.Romanov
    2.Kuzmin
    3.Afonin
    4.Sergey Kalchugin
    5.Arslanbek Makhmudov
    6.Gimbatov
    7.Basir Abakarov
    8.Plechko.
