The irony is that the Americans love this fight!

You won't. The thing is I'd rather see Pavlik vs Abraham then Calzaghe vs Pavlik. Joe Cal has, with the exception of Bute, cleaned up 168, beat Hopkins at 175, and now he wants a going away fight vs Jones who happens to be the biggest money opponent out there, I cannot blame him.

For all the talk of Calzaghe avoiding Pavlik to fight Jones there does seem to be little in the way of talk of Pavlik avoiding Abraham.

What ?? hold up Pac p4p wise has done ten time more than what Pavlik has done at 1 weight class ..Lets not go there ..But I would agree the fight would be huge since the Youngstown fans wouldn't have far to travel and the English fans would also be there in full force.

Oh you will never get this many dam threads on that ..Pavlik can do no wrong ..According to the current mentality he's already a top ten p4p fighter which at 1 weight class is nonsense ,an all time great and the most feared man in boxing  And im a Pavlik fan I like to watch him fight he's exciting but in no way did I feel he was ready for Calzaghe ..I prefer to see the fight with double A the divsions needs a unified champ he shoud start there..What Joe did at super middle and at lt heavy was more of a challenge than fighting the current middle weight champ ..

Exactly. I like watching Pavlik fight as well, but the man still hasn't cemented himself as the top middle so to think he can beat the best 168 pounder, and possibly the best 175 pounder, is a bit ridiculous at this point until he proves himself against more quality opposition.

Over at ESPN.com Jones is leading Calzaghe 65% to 35%.

I am embarrassed that American bozig fans no so little about the sport.

Let's be clear. Jones was an all-time great but at this point has no shot against Calzaghe, who still is an all-time great.

This will be a replay of Calzaghe-Lacy.

What the **** is so damn hard to understand about the FACT that Abraham is NOT AVAILABLE!!!!! He has a mandatory, and he has commitments to German television. HBO penciled Pavlik/Abraham in for January 09 MONTHS AGO!!

Pavlik/Calzaghe is a fight JOE SAID HE WANTED!! Pavlik did not call Joe out. It was quite the opposite. When Pavlik said yes Joe immediately grew webbed feet and a bill, and all you guys want to do is make excuses for him.

How could it be for the 168 & 175 fights ??

Would they fight in the middle at 171.5 ??

I am a huge Calzaghe fan but I am uninspired with the RJJ match, RJJ is also one of my favs and I have no doubt that a prime 168/175 RJJ beats Joe Calzaghe.

hoever I can seewhy joe has taken the fight, he is 36 and has had few big money fights, Roy Jones will be the biggest name and biggest paycheck of his career. But I have also beleiv since his win of B-Hop that Joewill definatley have 2 more fights. i think the fact that he has chose to keep hold of his alphabet belts at 168 rather than drop them proves that he fancies another payday after RJJ.

Imo Calzaghe - Pavlik will def happen, so long as KPs camp are interested. Calzaghe v Pavlik is ne of the best fight that can be made above 147. Comes second only to PBF - Cotto imo.

Two fighters can fight for a belt at any weight below the division maximum. Two fighter can fight for the LHW title at 175, 174, 173 or whatever. If both come in under 168 they can fight for both titles... see SRL vs Lalond as an example. On the other hand the boxer with the 175 title does not have to put it on the line in that fight.

Now if Joe could get to 160 potentially they could fight for 160, 168 and 175 titles - though that just aint gonna happen.

JC has no one to blame but himself because of what he said about RJJ and Pavlik. NO ONE BUT HIMSELF.
