Ok so i am inspired to write about fighters who would have never beaten a legend but did. Usually in the legend's later career.

I have many that i can list. Off the top of my head:
    Trevor Berbick over Muhammad Ali
Vilomar Fernandez and Scott Walker over Alexis Arguello
Ralph Jones, Ferd Hernandez, Joey Archer and a few others over Sugar Ray Robinson
    Yama Bahama over Kid Gavilan
    Sonny Leon over Willie Pep
Shannon Briggs over George Foreman (I havent seen this one, I heard it was a robbery, nevertheless, a young Foreman would have tko'd Briggs)
    Michael Bentt over Tommy Morrison
    Alfredo Layne over Wilfredo Gomez
    Chester Slider over Henry Armstrong
Charlie "White Lightning" Brown over Alfredo Escalera
    Uriah Grant over Thomas Hearns
Danny Green (met him, love the guy great guy and boxer but), Dennis Lebedev and Enzo Macarinelli over Roy Jones Jr.
John Stracey (another great guy I met, love the guy too as a person but) over Jose Napoles
    Scott Papsadora over Wilfred Benitez
    Jorge Rodriguez over Danny Lopez
William Joppy, Jorge Castro and specially, Omar Gonzalez over Roberto Duran
Willy Wise and Grover Wiley over Julio Cesar Chavez Sr.
    Joe Smith over Bernard Hopkins
Chris Walsh and Saul Duran over Hector Camacho, Sr.
Hasim Rasham and Oliver McCall over Lennox Lewis
    Wilfredo Rivera over Carlos Palomino
Danny Williams and Kevin McBride over Mike Tyson
Amin Asikainen over Yori Boi Campas
    Vacheslav Secehnko over Ricky Hatton
Carlos Baldomir and Alfonso Gomez over Arturo Gatti
    Antonio Becerra over Salvador Sanchez
Calvin Grove (another great guy I met and love but) over Jeff Fenech
    Papin Negron over Juan Meza
    Gerald Hayes over Juan LaPorte
    Oscar Muniz over Jeff Chandler
John Carlo and Fred Houppe over Leon Spinks
Bobby Joe Young over Aaron Pryor

There are several fights I would not list here, such as Rocky Marciano-Joe Louis, Hector Camacho Sr. over Sugar Ray Leonard and Roberto Duran, Jimmy McLarnin over Benny Leonard, Greg Haugen over Ray Mancini and Ken Buchanan over Carlos Ortiz, for example, because in those cases, the winners were legends themselves and in fights between legends, you just never know.

Any other fights like that you can mention??

Just wanted to say go watch Foreman-Briggs. A ridiculous robbery. Foreman jabbed Briggs's face off the entire fight. Should have been an easy victory on points.

On the OP list, the one that sticks out to me is Muniz-Chandler 1. The others are part of a long precedent throughout boxing history. Guys hang on long enough to be a nice scalp for another guy they'd have easily beaten a few years before. Too common a tale.

Watching Muniz-Chandler I was struck by how much that fight felt like a guy holding the tide back with a spoon and somehow succeeding. It felt like all Chandler had to do was accelerate a bit, as he was far bigger and stronger than Muniz, who simply pecked him to death and outhustled Chandler, a man who clearly had other things on his mind. The more realistic result was what happened in their rematch.

All credit to Muniz; Jeff realized too late that one has to actually show up and fight to win bouts.

If you think that's bad, just try to put some logic to the fact that Pat Lawlor holds back to back wins over Wilfred Benitez and Roberto Duran.

Douglas over Tyson. Its probably been talked about more than the news does with the Kardashians, but this is one of those defeats that shouldn't have happened.

Douglas dominated him all throughout that fight and it just makes literally no sense. Tyson could've beaten him and all he had to do to win was NOT be flat-footed and simply throw more combinations. Even between rounds you could hear his trainers tell him repeatedly to stop rushing in there thinking a 1-hit wonder was going to work because it wasn't. Use those combinations. But no....instead, Tyson thought it was a better idea to try bulldozing through punches being thrown by a 6'4, 234 lb monster.

What made him think he was going to ever beat Douglas with the same flawed tactic is beyond me. I just don't understand it. While we'll never know if he would've actually beaten Douglas even with a change of tactics, his odds would've been significantly higher considering the effectiveness he did have when he actually listened to what he trainers told him.

What a great experience to be at a fight like that as a young fellow.

Tell us more of what you remember from it, please.

Spinks over Cooney is debatable...after all, Michael is a hall of famer...
