I do not see a sustained beating happening at all. Wlad would have a hard time finding the targate against Toney and expand a lot of energy that way.Look at how clumsy Wlad looked against Ibrahimigov

Yes, and in one of his worst performances of his career, he still won 11 rounds. Iggy was in there just to survive, hard to find a small crouching fighter who doesn't want to fight at all. Toney would most likely try to win, that would make him available for sewrious punishment. Sam Peter landed good punches on him, no reason why Wlad couldn't.

I would favour Wlad by 12 round decision with Toney having some good moments. It is hard to say because we have not seen Toney against a giant but we do know that when Toney is on he is a threat. There is no basis to claim that Wlad would KO a guy who has not been KOD in 21 years.

Some people here are either clueless or absurdly biased

I am a huge James Toney fan, but he has ALWAYS struggled against guys who fought him from the outside and did not walk to him. Toney is at his best against an aggressive opponent who comes forward and allows him to slip and counter. Toney was great under those conditions. When forced to move forward himself he became much less effective and often was frustrated as well

There is no way he beats WALD, it is an absolutely AWFUL style matchup for Toney

I diasagree. When on, Toney can adjust to any style. He can lead, counter and is a hard pucher when he is right. He did outbox Griifin II, Tim Littles, Regie Johnson for instant and those guys were skilled and moved .

I'm not trying to take away Toney's accomplishments at HW. They are very good considering the age at which he started at HW and given that he's a former mw/smw (though u gotta factor in steroids possibly too). He beat some of this era's "contenders" as you pointed out plus he put a beating on holy, but the question dealt with how toney would do with wlad. None of the hw's toney beat (or should've beat) come close to stacking up with wlad and toney wasn't exactly dominating ruiz rahman guinn and peter. he's just too small and lacking the power (and possibly quickness and footspeed) to trouble wlad too much. he might make wlad work a little harder (assuming toney is in the holyfield fight shape) but wlad would win big over toney.

just like I said, a stoppage is unlikely. But not impossible. However, I could never see a straight KO happening, if Toney would get stopped then it'd be either a TKO or corner retirement after sustained beating.

As I wrote in my first post, 2003 Toney stopping Wlad would be just as possible as Wlad stopping Toney. After all Toney has never ever been stopped or being close to being stopped in 80 pro fights, a 2003 version Toney is very hard to stop, and I don't think Wlad would even try to do it and let his hands go enough. This fight would most probably end in a decision, either for Toney or for Wlad. I elaborated it in my first post on page 1.

Agreed, a stoppage is unlikely either way.

If anything pre Sanders Wlad would destroy Toney and knock him out. Post Sanders Wlad would beat Toney up to a decision in a boring fight.

I do believe that Toney takes a better punch at least better than Wlad not Vitali.

It's too easy given the way Toney let himself go after Evander to write him off in this fight.

That Toney gives a younger Wlad pure hell.
