That's what Straw is for me; a breeding ground for light fly contenders.

Brian Viloria v Roman Gonzalez for me if possible, think Gonzalez will move up to fly at some point.

Ioka should test the waters at light fly first, but I would live to see him clear out at straw first.

Ioka was at light fly and looked set to, at various times, fight Keb Baas or Nino Romero. However, with his options becoming limited and him wanting to set the record for fastest Japanese fighter to win a 'world' title, he made the decision to drop down and take on Oleydong when the opportunity presented itself.

I think he'll have one more fight at minimumweight and then move back up again.

By the way, for those that are fans of Rungvisai, here's some footage of Sato against Kono:

Rungvisai is the favourite for the fight, but I would not count Sato out. He's fast, decent footwork, can punch, good jab, good variety etc.

Ruiz to Challenge Kameda Later this Year

    This content is protected

The flamboyant Koki Kameda and Mexican puncher Hugo Ruiz have come to terms and agreed to fight for the former’s WBA World bantamweight title later this year.

25-year old Ruiz (29-1, 26 KOs) is in the form of his life, obtaining the Interim WBA bantamweight title against Alvaro Perez by technical decision and successfully defending it twice against countryman Francisco Arce.

Kameda (27-1, 17 KOs), one of three professional fighting brothers and perhaps the least revered boxer in Japan among boxing aficionados, bounced back well from his humbling at the hands of Pongsaklek Wonjongkam to capture his third ‘world’ title in as many weights when he defeated veteran Alexander Munoz by unanimous decision to reign as the WBA World bantamweight champion.

However, the 25-year olds tenure as champion at bantamweight almost came to an abrupt end when little-known swarmer David De La Mora pushed him to a debatable decision in August of last year. The southpaw from Osaka got back on track with a dominant stoppage win over Mario Macias in his last outing.

The proposed fight between Kameda and Ruiz is to take place assuming both come through their next fights successfully. Ruiz is pencilled in for a title defence on March 17, whilst Kameda is expected to have a contest by April.

No venue or location has been mentioned for Kameda vs. Ruiz as of yet, but, due to the pulling power Kameda has in his home country, it is expected to take place in Japan.
