and BTW JMM practically fought the perfect fight in March 2008 except for a moment in round 3 where he was winning the round, made a mistake, and Pac made him pay dearly. The JMM from the Pac II fight was much better than the first one, and also had a 14 week training camp. Thats more than 3 months training for 1 fight. That could very well have been the best performance of his career. Also, fighting Pacquiao the 2nd time should always be easier than the first time. Especially for a guy with JMM's style. Because JMM relies alot on timing, and after so many rounds with Pacquiao, JMM can time him better. I think Pacquiao is a much better fighter today in large part thanks to JMM. What I mean is that JMM gave Pacquiao the experience that no fighter in the world could give him. After fighting a master like JMM for 24 rounds, fighting guys like old Oscar and especially Diaz looks basic. Sure they are bigger but JMM has the perfect counter to every punch. JMM throws his jab at the perfect moment. Throws the straightest right hand in the sport. etc. Pac has been with the best and has learned from it. Same with JMM. After fighting Pac for 24 rounds, imagine how slow a guy like old Casamayor seems? How flat footed he seems? Is there any other southpaw that can throw a straight left that will trouble JMM after he faced Pac's straight left for 24 rounds? I think that at the end of their careers Pac and JMM wil have a great respect for each other. In fact i think its already the case.
If JMM looks good at 140, I will pray for the rematch. JMM to me is the second best fighter on the planet. Watching him fight is like a work of art. A master boxer-puncher-counterpuncher who adjusted to Pac even better when Pac was improved in the second fight.
jmm should fight Mayweather in a tuneup...its the only logical choice should pbf decide he needs a fight under his belt to get back into shape.
At 135, Pac v JMM is a true 50-50 who knows even-stevens fight. Above 135, Pac wins. I don't believe JMM will handle fighting at higher weights as well as Pac.
you sure? i mean these two have been defying logic lately. I still think it's still a 50/50 fight for both even if it's above 135
If JMM really wants Pacquiao (and NO ONE ELSE), he needs to move up to 140 and fight a top guy like Bradley or Holt, and take their belt, which would put pressure on Pacquiao to make a decision after the Hatton fight. Again, if Manny were to win against Ricky, JMM would be an underdog to snag a third fight under the grasp of Floyd for all the obvious reasons of "Fight of the Decade" and $$$. But with the way negotiations go sometimes, JMM would then be the no-brainer option if PBF contract talks fall through, especially since he will have proven he is a viable candidate at 140 after winning a belt on HBO or Showtime in front of the media/fans buzzing about it. The fight with Juan Diaz, while cementing his status as a top lightweight, does nothing for him in putting pressure on Pacquiao to fight him, since a fight with the Pac-Man is JMM's primary, secondary, and tertiary objective.
JMM will do just fine unifying at 135 lbs....... ......I'm a believer that a fighter should'nt go past a weight class he can make comfortably, unless its for a big money fight he would otherwise not get at the weight class he was already in. It would'nt make any sense for JMM to move up to 140 lbs to fight the likes of Bradley or Holt. The risk/reward ratio just does'nt favor him. Hatton is a better proposition, in that even if he loses, he's compensated financially for his troubles. Short of moving up and taking on and beating Floyd Mayweather Jr., there is'nt anything really JMM could do to force Pac into a third match. When it was announced that Mayweather would move up to 140 lbs after the David Diaz fight, JMM commented that he might do the same.....there were even rumblings on the grapevine that GBP were in discussions for a Hatton fight after Hatton's fight with Malignaggi. ......to that, Bob Arum stated, "If he thinks that because he's moving up we're going to fight him anytime soon, he's got another thing coming. Thats just the thing......we should'nt expect a third JMM-Pac fight to be made anytime soon, because Bob Arum and Top Rank have already made it clear that they much rather take their chances with Hatton and Mayweather......now I'm even reading in this forum that DLH wants a rematch...... ......can you imagine if Pac continues to win.....JMM would have to wait behind Hatton, Mayweather and DLH......maybe even longer if JMM continues to look impressive during the time that Pac is taking on these guys........if so, Pac, Arum and Co. can very well decide its less riskier to take on the likes of Margarito or Paul Williams! A JMM-Pac fight again is unlikely to happen when it really matters is what I'm saying.
Can fighting JMM bring in more money than fighting Hatton or PBF?! To make the story short? Can JMM jump at least one weight category more than 135lbs... meaning fight at 140lbs... For the record it's been ages since somebody made fights in three different weight classes in a span of one year! I hope JMM will have the guts to jump a least one weight catergory more! If PAC can make it WHY CAN'T JMM?! Surely he can if he wants to figth out of his COMFORT ZONE!:hey
There is no dilemma, JMM is good, really good! He is a great technician, the best perhaps in this era.:good It is just that his best is not enough to beat Pac or maybe, to say it more correctly... he has the best style to defeat Pac but he has not done that yet after two tries!:thumbsup
