I'm on a break at the moment - I'll try and use a colour that sticks out on both backgrounds next time.

    Cheers:p

Good write-up and mostly fair. I hate Joe C's showboating.. like you said for some fighters it works but for Joe it doesn't.

However I DO think Joe C is a great fighter, there are a number of reasons I credit him as a great:

First is his fighting spirit, he shows in every fight that he wants to win, he has been knocked down three times and each time gets up to win the fight, his workrate is about the best I have ever seen in any fighter.

Secondly he has an unusual style, it isn't RJJ's style.. it is different and relies heavily on lightning handspeed and the angles he finds. This style seems beyond alot of people to fight. Hopkins who is the master of spoiling fighters plans did counter Joe very well but couldn't cope with his workrate or spirit.

Thirdly, he is technically a great boxer. He makes virtually all his opponents look bad in the ring by totally dominating the pace and control of the fight.

On Saturday nights form I can't see anyone else at LHW currently being a realistic challenger. Dawsons name keeps coming up so therefore perhaps I am wrong and he is a worthy challenger, in that case I hope Joe takes a fight with him.

For the most part a great fighter has to have beaten other great fighters who were in their prime (or close to it) and they have to look the part.

The only men (I can think of) whom I rate as great and didn't fight other ATG's in their prime are Larry Holmes and Mike Tyson. Holmes and Tyson were similar in that they thoroughly dominated the heavyweight scenes in their respective primes but didn't have a BIG NAME nemesis.

Calzaghe has good wins but Lacy and Kessler are not ATG's, the Hopkins win was dreadful and Jones is done. I also come down hard on Calzaghe for fighting so many stiffs.

He's not great IMO and never will be! Some of that is not his fault but some of it is. Plus his slapping style gives me the shits!!!!:)
