Your man love for Toney is almost as strong as your desire to give Eubank a foot massage. Roy destroyed prime Toney at 168 where he looked great and was a favorite... Deal with it.
Just previously just seven years previous, right before he fought Jones! Reggie used to get the better of Roy in sparring in Pensacola in '92.
Toney was undefeated when he fought Jones and I'm aware of Johnson being his sparring partner but he was well established as a pro when they fought like I previously pointed out .But as you saw sparring and a pro fight are 2 different things
A shell of himself, unless you require brain and eye surgery. Jackie Kallen says James was on a drip in hospital to keep him alive after the Jones weigh-in.
Dude Reggie was clearly nowhere near the fighter he had previously been in 91-92 when he was as slick as a greaseball and nearly as fast as Jones.
No, Roy just had his number... Toney had never had to deal with that kind of fighter before... And you do realize fighters have to be medically cleared to fight right? Toney signed the fight, got paid, and ran his mouth about how he was going to beat Roy.. His manager even said Toney was confident in winning. You are pretty known on here for hating Jones, so I don't expect you to give him any credit anyway.
Again before beating Jones he beat Collins than beat Buthrie for the IBF title so stop it ..And as far as Toney and his weight Over the next 3 and half years, Toney would become one of boxings most active champions. From the time he fought Nunn, until his fight with Roy Jones in November 1994, Toney had fought an amazing 20 times. In fact, Toney had stepped back into the ring to defend his title against the highly dangerous number 1 contender, Reggie Johnson, a mere 7 weeks after he had won the title from Nunn. In that fight, Toney had to overcome a nasty cut (that would later require 33 stitches), to pull out a decision win over Johnson. Toney would go on to defend his middleweight title 5 more times against the likes of Francesco Dell Aquilla, WBA champion Mike McCallum, Dave Tiberi, Glenn Wolfe, and again McCallum. In 1991, Toney was named Ring magazines fighter of the year. During many of those defenses, Toneys toughest opponents were not those of the ring but in fact that of the scales. Toneys weight would commonly escalate to 195 lbs between fights and it was becoming increasingly more difficult for him to make the required 160 lbs Middleweight limit. That's great that he beat Jones in sparring how did that translate in their championship match :think
You could make a better resume with opponents Jones did not fight than those he did fight. 'Nuff said.
There was also talk of Reggie defending the WBA belt against Jones after he beat Collins, but neither Roy Sr or Coach Merk fancied the fight....
Your sad .. He just won the IBF title prior to facing Jones by a brutal beat down of G uterine let me guess Johnson was shot when he fought right
