The Joshua Poll. Has he lived up to the hype of being the next great heavyweight?

Who would you have in his place? Parker and Wilder certainly don't qualify, Ortiz needs to prove himself, and Povetkin is rapidly becoming irrelevant. Joshua isn't the dominant force a lot of people were hyping him up as but he's still the best qualified of the bunch, no?

 

I think Parker will do a lot better than many think. I want to see how he does against Browne before saying any more though.

 

He has the potential, but has a long way to go. Takam is experienced, but not top 10 competition. The Takam fight showed that Hearn has matched Joshua with the same tall and stiff fighters with no mobility too often. For most of the fight Joshua looked lost when it came to dealing with a small opponent with decent head movement and footwork.

 

Takam's one of the most consistent top ten guys in the division right now.

 

He has shown enough ability but has a long way. 4 more years at least. 50/50 chance

 

Takam is top 10, the division is fairly thin at the moment. Guys like Bellew, Hammer, Kownacki are in some or all of the boxrec/Ring/ESPN top 10 HW rankings.

 

My point was he hasn't beaten anybody except an over the hill WK who battered him. He really has to fight Ortiz, Povetkin and Wilder. Winning a paper belt vs a complete can and then defending against the likes of Molina, Breazeale and even Takam is not proving anything to me.

 

He'd need to beat the following to be considered for top 40 ATG:

Fury
Wilder
Parker
Povetkin
Ortiz
Haye

 

It’s to early in his career to say. He got fast tracked into becoming world champion, and now he’s being judged on that status. Had he not fought Charles Martin we would likely be asking the question, is Joshua ready for a world title shot. But instead, after 20 fights we’re asking if he is one of the greats.

Of course he isn’t. He’s 20 fights in. He doesn’t even know what his ideal weight is yet.

 

Based on the eye test Joshua is a clear step below Lewis and the Klitschkos.

 

In a word, No

 

There is a way to beat Joshua, Vlad would have knocked him out if Vitali had not told him to back off and box instead of going for the knockout! Vitali will knock him out if they were to fight and Vlad would in a rematch. Joshua would knock Wilder out for sure!

 

Outside of Wlad and Takam he's feasted on **** poor opposition, even Whyte is crap and in reality shouldn't be in a good top 10.

He's good, there's no denying that but he is a very flawed fighter who just so happens to have come at the right time and been promoted/managed extremely well to the casual and reality TV loving fans.
