I guess he's more of a gatekeeper but I always liked Tony Thompson. Can never forget his legendary interview after beating David Price. I also like Emmanuel Augustus. Very unorthodox style This content is protected
I can't believe this old threads been bumped !.. I like boxers who are on the slide and become journeymen because they always have an element of surprise that they just might fancy it on that particular night
Amir khan was basically an expensive higher level journeymen, selling his glass chin to the highest bidder
Your knowledge of boxing is non existent, you will not last long on here,oh and btw what the f*** is a melt?and how do i cry you a river?
My knowledge is above yours grandad. You report people do you lol, you boring old 67 year old moaning grandad. Its past your bedtime you miserable, sensitive dosser
Another thing you are incorrect about,i have never reported anyone in my 4 years on this forum.Ok just to educate you a journeyman is a fighter who has adequate skill, but is not of the caibre of a contender.Khan was a unified light welter weight champion of the world,he in no way fits the description of journeyman.I simply said your post was rubbish which it was and you proceed to make personal attacks on me.It doesn`t bother me so take care and have a good day
journeymen get too much respect in the UK. shuffling around for 4 or 6 rounds and pocketing their paychecks in ‘fights’ that are one step below fixed. nothing noble about that, it’s a hustle.
Boxing would be better if it conducted itself like UFC. Move guys faster, weed out the journeymen. Every time I see some 16-0 prospect take on the 23-5-2 “crafty veteran”, I regret watching. For every upset knockout, there are fifty boring 99-91 decisions.
Zack Page was probably the main journey man for the last era of HW's. Took Fury, Perez, Pianeta, Gerber, Charr, Juan Carlos Gomez, Yoan Pablo Hernandez, Stiff Mitchell and Pulev all the distance.
No man that's nonsense. Journeymen might be out every week or every other week. They usually work 5 days a week and have a family. There training is based around there fights with maybe 1 or 2 sessions of boxing per week in their boxing gym. There opponents are usually really good prospects with years of boxing as a background. They are coming into the sport wanting go make big waves. They typically have a boxing coach, a S&C coach, a sports nutritionist a sports massage therapist, a physiotherapist as well as sponsorship deals coming out their ass. that means they can focus 100% on their training and dont need to work. I know of 1 JM who starts work at 4 in the morning on a Saturday, finishes at 12 or if needs to has to leave an hour or so early. Will go home get changed, go down to London and weigh in. He then hangs around the venue usually in a bk room and waits for his spot on the show, which sometimes can be 6 hrs or so after weigh in. He does all that athen gets In with a prospect who's trained like I mentioned in the paragraph above. The Prospect after weighing in usually goes home to rest a couple or few more hrs before coming back to venue an hour or so before they fight. The prospect has done a 3 or 4 month camp specifically for that night with all the perks of training he has he comes in a beast. And wants to make a big statement on their opponent. The JM will have the fight, finish and make his way home only to have to go back into work the next morning at 4am. Then do it all again the week after. I'd you don't feel that deserves respect then go and get licensed and have a go yourself.
nobody makes these guys fight, and they aren’t owed a living. they’re just taking advantage of a broken system. I’d rather the UK had more ambitious B-sides that boxed less frequency, like in the US or Mexico. wild cards that will give it a go. huge swathes of UK “prospects” that are clearly not much cop need to be filtered before they build fraudulent records of 10-0, 12-0 against professional losers.
