This is a common mentality with writers and Floyd fans. To beat him, you must knock him out because he's just better than you, so anything you do in there is a product of him letting you, and everything he does is some next-level **** that may not hurt you or help him in any way, but damn did you see how Floyd turned his hip and shoulder while steering Maidana with his elbow??? Goddamn that Floyd is a great fighter! Oh look at Maidana trying to hit him with that overhand. Oh see, Floyd got him tied up and all Maidana can do is slap him in the body but that doesn't even hurt Floyd I mean you see that guy's abs?? Now they're broke up and OH MY GOD DID YOU SEE HOW FLOYD SET UP THAT JAB?!?!?!!?!! Masterful. Now Maidana has him on the ropes again but all those punches are landing on the kidneys and on Floyd's shoulder. Now Floyd turned him and is back in the center, see how he controls the ring? In this fight, Maidana's work counted because Floyd's work was ineffective in a lot of rounds. When Floyd did try to counter off the ropes, he either missed or just didn't effect Maidana. The Cotto fight was different because he half-dropped Cotto off the ropes repeatedly.

You have to judge each fight and each round individually. Floyd shouldn't get credit for what he usually does, but humans naturally seek to make sense of what they see based on their past experiences. I would argue that your expectations influence your scoring and bias it toward Floyd.
