Joe Joyce is a fighter who: 1) Is consistently down (or close to even) on the cards, even when he wins. - Implying that he lands fewer effective shots than his opponents RBR. 2) Is an accumulation KO artist (15 of 16 wins coming by KO). - Implying he lands a high volume of effective shots on his opponents. I coin this the Juggernaut Paradox. One possible answer could be that Joyce make his opponents quit based on his "come-forwardness", taking tremendous punishment but ultimately exhausting his opponents in the process with his granite chin and superior gas tank. I don't think this is the case because look at Derek's face after the fight; Del Boy wasn't fighting the heavy bag in there, he was getting hurt. The only other possibility is that Joyce's punches are underrated. It's easy to see why; he's slow as ****, ponderous, awkward-looking, but if he's landing and his opponents are getting damaged/hurt by them, then they're effective shots and should be scored as such. Do judges therefore underrate/underscore Joyce? Is he hard done by, or is it my perception that is off?
Big-ups to Chisora btw who I had losing the fight by one round if it weren't for the last ditch knock-down which was only made possible by tremendous grit and guts.
I see what you are saying. I remember the Dubois fight being a competitive but one sided affair which wasn't really reflected by the scorecards or by how many people scored it here. His punches are slow and not very dynamic looking but it's clear he's pretty heavy handed as when he catches people cleanly he hurts them. He clearly hurt Chisora on a few occasions who if nothing else is durable. So yeah when scoring his fights people probably don't give enough emphasis when he does land a punch. But another issue is his defence, he takes a lot of shots, so while he maybe landing a lot, he's also taking a lot and often taking huge shots which are eye catching. So some who like his volume and understand those slow and unimpressive shots are heavy probably score more favourably for him but those who prefer more eye catching shots Joyce ends up inevitably taking score against him even if he is out working his opponents. It comes down to personal preference.
