didnt find one of these so i figured i would start one....

first off, i tend to keep away from chavez sr threads because honestly, i can't stomache the fact that many on here call him an overated bum that fought a bunch of nobodies...and that's one thing that really gets under my skin....

a quick fact that many may not know is this....chavez never had much of an amateur career, and those that know how mexico works are pretty familiar with the fact that chavez had to man up at an early age and fight grown ass men with not much experience behind him...honestly, i dont even think he had any amateur experience..there's been many stories about that, and i think the closest he came to an amateur career are a couple of exibition fights around mexico......anyways

one thing that really bothers me is when people say he fought many bums to tally up that record....
i dont think those clowns know that he got his first title only 4 years after turning pro, which is about the average time that even the great olympic fighters take to earn a title....pernell whitaker is one of the greatest ever, and it took him 5 years to get that world title, and that came against a man that chavez literally ****en raped in the ring....so i say all that talk about his early career is just that, talk...cause when it came down to it, the man soldier'd the **** up and did what he had to do to earn his shot, and he took pride in being a champ, defended with honor and never ducked or dodged anybody........

anyways, lets take the time to appreciate this man, and give him the respect and props he deserves....to be a lighter weight fighter back in the days and to be able to hold the torch that tyson also had was almost impossible, and this little man did it :happy

If I had to make a boxer using parts from the ATGs, he would have Julio Cesar Chavez' patience and determination.

Im also a Chavez fan and it annoys me how people **** on his resume. :-(

From all the fighters ive seen i cant think of two guys i would less like to fight than Joe Frazier and Julio Chavez, because they just did not leave alone and there sole intention was to beat the living **** out of you, only you could not hurt that mofo Chavez

I swear a baseball bat would not of stopped Chavez

I do think Chavez's resume is a bit overrated in some quarters, but I do appreciate what an excellent fighter he was in his day. I absolutely love his performance against Rosario in particular. One of the very best ever at fighting in that style.

Obviously the numbers are overrated (any time a guy has over 100 wins half of it has to be chaff) but the quality of the names aren't. He has some GREAT fighters on his resume. Really great ones.

Off the top of my head, Azumah Nelson, Hector Camacho in the mid-late 80s, Buddy McGirt.

I'm sure there were a couple of others I noted I would've liked to see him fight, but the names escape me at the moment.
