Hopefully Kelly will get himself together and come back fresh and strong.
Pavlik has a hard punch and a good chin. If he can get his boxing together. Who knows?
Kelly has been entertaining in his fights and showed some real toughness.
    Good luck to him

I think he still has enough left in the TANK. The Most Punishment he ever took was when Sergio Cut Him.

He took Crazy shots from Miranda and didnt even phase him. Not to mention the Combos he took from Taylor (Which resulted in a KD), & B-HOP.

Kelly is strong and has a great CHIN. That is enough for him to Win some good fights in the future! I Think Garcia is gonna be great for Kelly!

He was looking pretty trim at the fights in Campbell on Saturday. His clothes were kind of baggy, but still.....

Thats how he looked when i seen him. Baggy Clothes and Skinny! Almost like he only needs to drop 10 lbs or so to make 168

If KP can make anything resembling a comeback, I would love to see him back at 160 temporarily. Mainly because he lost the Martinez fight for the wrong reasons. From round 3 thru round 8 he made it OBVIOUS that he is a better boxer than Martinez.

People delight in denying that, but a good part of the time during those rounds Sergio looked like a man who was running for his life. He did not look like a fighter who is taking rounds off, or a fighter who is thoughtfully trying to adjust to his opponent. Look at his facial expression: He was terrified. And, his corner was in a state of panic screaming about . ' . ' . guess what? DOUBLE THE ****ING JAB YOU ASS!!! Watch those rounds, listen to the corners, and try and tell me I'm wrong.

The problem with returning to 160 is that after Martinez there isn't anything left. Sturm Will never fight Kelly. There's Pirog, but I seriously doubt if his management would let him fight a version of KP that just beat Sergio. Sturm and Pirog can both beat Chavez junior. Junior vs a top shelf version of KP is a 3 round fight.

At 168 there are a bunch of good fights for KP at both the top tier and 2nd tier. Even if he couldn't be the top dog he could still finish out his career in style.

In a perfect world a little more time at 160 if it's doable, and then move up. That might be the way to go.

A couple days ago Lem Satterfeild confirmed KP's plan to move out to California and work with Garcia. That was on the Ring website.

Pavlik is not a functioning alcoholic so I doubt he will ever do anything substatial in boxing.

At this point, he is at best, a gatekeeper.

If he can regain some of the form from his Taylor days, he could make the 160 division interesting again.

Pirog, Martinez, Pav (maybe), AA (maybe), Chavez...

Pavlik is too big for 160. He weighed like 181 or something in that fight ,something crazy. It not as much about weight, but he has for years been way too predicitable with his fighting style. That would never beat Sergio. If Garcia can give him more variety and physically he is ok it would be intresting to see him fight someone like Dirrell, Steiglitz, Bika somebody like that.

You throw Dirrell into the same class as Steiglitz and Bika?

You think I overrate Dirrel who hasn't fought in so long? Bika and Steiglitz like 5 and 6 in the division. It's the best fight at 168, b/c he obviously did not just want to jump in there with Bute or Ward.

Dirrel has plenty of talent, but I guess we need to see what he is like in his comeback. If he is close to what he was Bika and Steiglitz are not in his league.

:lol::lol: Personally, I thought the double jab advice was pretty good when Pavlik fought Hopkins. It would have disrupted Hopkins rhythm or lack of rhythm.

You say he would "never" beat Martinez, but you have to know that Martinez does not share your confidence, and that is why he would not even discuss the idea of a rematch at 164-66. Wouldn't even discuss the possibility of doing for Kelly EXACTLY what Kelly gladly did for Jermain.

The worst version of Pavlik we have ever seen, a version that probably would have lost to Sergio Mora or Brian Vera, took 5 rounds off Martinez, blacked his eyes, and put him on his ass. It's not that Pavlik is great. He's not. He's never been more than very-good, and none of his serious fans have ever claimed otherwise. Martinez on the other hand is the single most over-rated fighter on the planet.

As far as weight, ya he was heavy in the Martinez fight, but Chavez jr weighed just as much the other night. The difference is Pavlik came out of the Betty Ford Center 10 days before the fight, and had something like 20 pounds to lose.

KP has never used a real nutritionist. That could make a huge difference. Just like Arum asked Pav in their meeting, "How do you know when you've never tried anything?" Arum thinks it might be do-able with the right help, and for some reason i have a tendency to believe Old Bob might know more about it than you do:yep

Can't argue against that. However, on that particular night BHop was in his groove. There probably aren't more than a handful of middleweights in history who would have beat Hopkins that night. You have to watch for the subtle little things Hops did that night, and how well he did them, in order to really appreciate my claim.

For example, grab almost any Pavlik fight and watch Kelly walk a guy back to the ropes and keep him there. Next up, grab the Hopkins fight and watch Bernard's feet every time KP puts him on the ropes.
