I can dismiss Pavlik's issues with timing and coordination. As others have mentioned, though, the concern is that he doesn't appear to carry his power north of 160. This became apparent against Hopkins as well.

But he deserves another fight before he absorbs too much criticism. My instinct is that he's permanently declined, but I'm holding off until he gets another bout. Let's just hope they don't do anything foolish and schedule him too heavy. I'd say another undercard bout (Andrade would be the perfect opponent) makes the most sense.

Im taking into consideration that he was off for over a year and coming out of rehab... But he still looked bad.. I doont see Pavlik ever being world class or a top contender.. Lopez did look better against Pav, then the other times i saw him, but he isnt close to world class and he only lost barely lost on my card,,,forget what the judges said bull****... Pavlik might improve some with a couple more tune ups.. BUt not enough to be a factor.. Im betting that he gets beat by an unheralded opponent before he gets a big fight... They better be careful who they chose..

pavlik just hasnt looked the same since the first taylor fight to me.

I think he could have knocked lopez out if he had shown some urgency.

To me he just looks like he's going through the motions and doesn't have the fire in his heart anymore.

He STILL doesn't cut off the ring and just looks way too calm while he slowly walks around the ring after the other guy. He's just not hustling. If he had hustled he would have knocked lopez out, when he had lopez hurt he should have JUMPED all over the guy and swarmed him but instead he was just way too patient and flat footed.

I'm a big fan of kelly pavlik but unfortunately he hasn't been the same since the first taylor fight, I keep hoping that fighter shows up again but keep getting disappointed :(

    In post #337 I said:

"Kelly used to be a very active fighter who fought 3-4 times per year. Over the past two years he only fought 4 times, and one of the opponents was Miguel Espino. I've watched Pavlik for a long time. He is the type of fighter who MUST stay active in order to stay sharp."

Several people agreed with that statement, because it is true. It's not realistic to compare Pavlik from Saturday night with Pavlik from the Taylor fights. When Kelly fought Jermain, he was coming off KO wins over Zuniga, McKart, Zertuche, and Miranda. Saturday night he came off 13 months away from the ring, the battle with alcoholism, and two years of injury and illness.

Looking at that list of opponents the least dangerous guy was probably McKart. The version of McKart KP fought would beat the brakes off Espino, and give Rubio a run for his money. Anyone who doubts me need only take a look at McKart's post-pavlik outings against Enrique Ornales and Raul Marquez.

Kelly is talking about fighting again before the end of the summer. That is a very good idea. However, KP says he wants a "BIG FIGHT." This is where Jack Leow and Cameron Dunkin need to step in, and put Pav in check. He needs another "tune-up."

My first choice for a second "tune-up" type fight would be Pryor jr. He just bested Andrade, and I think he deserves a little attention for that. In addition, I've always said that although Pavlik and Andrade have certain style similarities Kelly does absolutely everything better than Librado.

Pryor's stick and move style would allow Kelly to work on the very things he needs to work on. However, there would not be much risk of a loss or injury in this fight. Junior's 58% KO ratio probably means KP could walk right through anything Pryor offers up, and continue to sharpen up his tools while preparing to make a big move early next year.

the scene has it reported that kelly wants to go right into a fight w/ bute or froch. i don't think this is the best course. i know he hates being in the position of fighting in front of empty seats two fights before the main event but i need to see those timing and positioning issues resolved (which i think he is fully capable of doing).

also, both bute and froch have fights lined up and i think kelly would be looking at a longer than needed break if he were to wait for them. go after another live opponent and work through whatever ring rust is left, get the timing down and get dialed in. then go after froch.

Pavlik was on a S.Fla radio show hosted by Michael Irvin this past Thursday and discussed his weight along with his dealings with alcohol. One interesting tidbit I thought was that he had to come all the way down from 195lbs.

Here's the archive. Just scroll down to the entry Kelly Pavlik with Michael Irvin 05-05 :thumbsup

Saturday's fight was a step in the right direction. Here's to hoping Pavlik continues with success on the comeback trail.

    1. I dont know what fight you guys were watching but clearly KElly Pavlik Got BEat!

    2. Lopez Out worked Kelly and Took the Fight to him

    3. Landed more punches

    4. Neutralised Kelly By keepin Inside

Im A die-hard True Kelly Pavlik fan and never Doubted him, But if anything, KElly Lost a Split or it was a DRaw..

The Only thing Kelly Did Good was How elusive he was in defending against The Combos thrown. THere was "NO KILLER INSTINCT" In the Few times That Stiff Jab Stunned Lopez, Kelly NEVER ATTACKED!!! YOU should Have HEard us at BUFFALO WILD WINGS!

The best he looked was 10th rd and its probably because jack Loew Said " You Better Knock him out cause your losing this fight!"

Ill take the W anyway i can but He lost, and if he fights BUTE next he will lose(and i dont think BUTE IS ALL THAT GREAT) so he better get a fight in 4 months and stay active and keep his weight down!

that picture in rustbelt's avatar is exactly what i want to see kelly work on in his next fight. he's landing a great left hook and the right is not in position to come right behind it. its all timing just like a batter in baseball not having his timing back after a long layoff.

fighters will throw and move to kelly's left in order to neutralize the right hand. he showed in the lopez fight that he has the pop in his left to hurt a lhw and also isnt afraid to throw it a lot. that right needs to be in position to come right down the pipe.

    he'll get dialed in
