Lets get it straight boy, they lost a single time before winning the title (Purrity). And do you realise that every great fighter had to comeback from a defeat to become great? I guess you are in mayweather land boy...:-(

so i am hating by saying it is better for ali to lose on points to frazier, than it is for wlad to lose by domination to sanders? atschatsch

lewis vs vitali was not a fluke, it was a systematic beatdown by both fighters, with vitali coming off worse.

byrd vs vitali was a fluke, i doubt byrd wins without the injury.

wlad vs sanders was not a fluke, he got blitzed and never avenged it.

wlad vs purrity was not a fluke, he gassed out.

wlad vs brewster was not a fluke, he gassed out.

it is much better to finish a fight on your feet, than in the arms of the ref. how can you not see this?

ali lost a brutal war. but had the heart and strength to finish the fight.

wlad was deemed unfit to continue on 3 occassions. not just a fluke, 3 seperate occassions.

if anyone is hating, it is you. you discredit wladimir. by insinuating all his losses are flukes, you undermine the mental strength he has had to show to overcome the defeats. by suggesting they are lucky you are belittling his actual achievements. he has done enough without people needing to fabricate his legacy.

he got battered when he was younger, and he had the strength to come back as a dominant force. without acknowledging his weakness you cannot appreciate his strength.

chef, we hear vitali say he feels like a 20 year old, and we hear him say he doesnt have long left. we hear wlad say vitali is improving with every fight.

what is the inside scoop? will vitali still be around in 2012? or is it literally just a couple of fights left for hm now?

It was an all out war of two powerful, skillful boxer-punchers of similar size. Sure he got hit from time to time but it still wasn't a lot.. And people that were actually in the arena that night say that Lewis was battered and done after 6. Vit's style was still effective.

Laugh if you want but to great degree it's based on reflexes, much like Ali's and RJJ's style. Vitali is just bigger so it doesn't look so spectacular. You need to have a great confidence to 'space sense' to fight like that. Very, very unusual for such big fighters. Haven't seen that in boxing until now frankly..

That said, I don't say Vitali and Wladimir would beat Lewis prime for prime. Not easy to call that for me. Vitali would always be competitive though.

Question to you. Do you consider Lennox Lewis an all time great? Keep in mind he got layed out twice with one punch each time. And not by exactly ATGs.

You are right, it is based on reflexes (and Vitali has good reflexes for a big man), but I feel for Vitali, the confidence to do it comes down to the comfort zone the limitations of his opponents give him. Lewis also often did the same thing in the early part of career, but simply trying to lean back out of reach will get you in a lot of trouble against better fighters, unless you are something special.

 

To refer to the Klitshckos as ATG's is premature because they are not retired yet. Currently the heavyweight division is weak and I dont think that a victory over Haye solidifies anything. Who has Haye beaten at heavyweight who is credible anyhow? Yeah he wobbled Valuev, but so did Barret. Barret knocked him down...
They may have 5 losses between them amongst lesser competition, but look at it like this. I dont think Oliver McCall, Haseem Rahman (both pancaking Lewis) or Buster Douglas (Tyson) as ATG's either. All of those fighters lost their very next matches. Klitschkos going undefeated for 5 years while remaining active and meeting all of their mandatories is commendable. Once they walk away from the ring we will see where they stand.
