wlad klit vs john l sullivan vitali klit vs james j jeffries both fights under jeffries era rules and over 45 rounds
Both fights go either one of 2 ways. The Klitschko's put enough of a beating on either guy to get them out of there within 12 or 15, or Jeffries and Sullivan come back and earn stoppages when the Klitschko's start to tire. Seeing as Jeffries & Sullivan could take a helluva lot of punishment and were extremely tough & durable, I think it's heading towards the latter. No question though that under modern rules and over 12 rounds, both would probably be embarassed.
The Klts batter and stop both and I dont care how long it lasts, both are likely fitter anyway. Not to mention the beating and the leaning on those old timers will take round after round will take its toll and exhaustes those men sooner
Scrap my opinion. I'm not the best qualified to give a logical opinion because I find it very difficult to compare era's so far apart.
This is an absurd statment. You are arguing that fighters who have never gone past 12 rounds are better conditioned and able to manage in a fight to the finish than sombody who was in a fight that lasted three and a half hours? Earth to Powerpuncher. The only way that the Klitschkos could ever hope to win these fights is by getting an early stoppage. If that dosn't hapen their goose would be prety much cooked.
Can we conclusively say that one set of fighters (Sullivan & Jeffries) is better conditioned than the other's (the Klitschko's) though? Sure they haven't been past 12, but obviously that's the limit. You have to ask the question, just how many rounds could they go on for?
In my opinion, of the two fights, Wladimir would have the best chance against John. However, with the fight scheduled for 45 rounds, I would have to go with John L. Sullivan. In my view, as much as I respect his performance on Saturday night, I just can't see any way for Vitali to beat James J. Jeffries.
I dont think endurance for a 45 round fight would come into question. Sullivan and Jeffries would be beaten to a pulp before 7 or 8 rounds.
Our ancestors were cut from a different cloth back then. They were a lot tougher and didn't have the advantages the boxers do today lie supplements, plyometricc training, medical technology, etc.
You would not be able to go into a 45 round fight with that asumption because if it didn't happen like that you would loose by default (as happened in the Purity fight over a much shorter duration). Hence they would have to try and pace themselves for a 45 round fight. Once they try to do that they are on a hiding to nothing.
