I continually hear on this forum that the Klitschko's could mix it with the greats of the Heavyweight division...how they would win and even KO some of the greats. Now the Klitschko's are undoubtedly great athletes...big, strong guys. However, the Heavyweight division is very weak at this point and has been for years... Either Klitschko would have to step it up at least 2-3 levels from what they have shown to even be compared to the Heavyweight greats of the past...and this is going to be hard because there is no-one to show it against (maybe Haye and Adamek are the only two credible opponents at this point). They have not shown me anything in the many bouts I have seen them in that suggest they are capable of sharing the ring with these greats, never mind them going on to pick up a victory against them. This is nothing against either Klitschko because they are doing what they have to do in a weak era...however, when I read some of their fans say Ali and other Heavyweight greats would have a hard time against them, and would most likely lose. I think of one bout...Lewis v Vitali...Vitali was winning, but that doesn't stop the fact an out of shape Lewis still picked up the victory against him. Lewis is the biggest name either has on their resume, and it is a L...
i pick wlad over any hw in history, nobody has his skills, size and power like he does. i think tyson in his prime would have kod vitali who doesnt have his brother boxing skills.
The weakness or greatness of an era is an extremely subjective subject and has much to do with media hype. Joe Louis fought only 17 opponents who would be HW's by today's standards. He won the title from a guy with 20 losses at LHW, yet a dominant LHW/CW like Adamek is already deemed unworthy to prove how good the Klitschkos are, before they even fight. Patterson wouldn't be in the HW division today, no chance, too small, too easy to KO, yet he gave ATG Liston his best wins. Ali was troubled by Doug Jones, 188 pounds, and Cooper, 186 pound, neither would give Klitschkos any trouble or even Haye, Adamek, Chambers, Solis. The fight of the century was hyped to be that, due to the unusual historic events preceding it and Ali's showmanship. Frazier at that point would have been KO'd even by the very green Foreman and probably by numerous HW's throughout histoy, especiall the modern Bowe/Lewis/Klitschko archetype. That version of Ali would have lost two out of three against Norton with fair scoring. These were not the two best HW's of all time, yet the fight is remembered as if they were. Lennox was underrated for most of his career, because he wasn't a self -promoter, wasn't American. Why do some people still believe Tyson is the GOAT at HW? He never beat a great fighter in their prime, Klitschkos are blamed for that very thing constantly, yet Tyson never did it. He simply was fascinating for his bizarre behavious and thug characteristics. Educated, classy people like Lennox and the Kltischkos are easily dismissed as boring. I personally enjoy the art of effective boxing more than a cannibalistic ****** trying to bite or break arms in the ring. In H2H comparison, the Klitschkos have a good argument against anyone. Not that they would beat everyone, but a good chance to do so can be easily deducted from their ratio of size to skills, athleticism, ring intelligence, mental strength, dedication in training.
Lennox Lewis? apart from that wlad does have physical advantages over a lot of atg heavyweights but this is an apparently weak era so he hasn't had too many hard tests and he does have a suspect chin.
atsch Prime Tyson would KO Vitali who hasn't been down once in his career (as far as I am aware), but wouldn't KO Wlad who has?
Definitely...my post was not to say the Klitschko's are bad, or that they are massively overrated (although I believe their fans overrate them...it's the same with any fans of a certain boxer though). But like I said, this is a weak era in boxing...in mine and numerous other peoples opinion. Have we seen the best of the Klitschko's? And what I mean by that is, have they been properly challenged? Probably not. (apart from Wlad's losses...in which I thought he has come back a greater boxer). They dominate these contenders left, right and centre...but could they step it up a notch if they were put up against the greats in Heavyweight history? They have the physical attributes like you said, but their fans believe that these attributes will automatically mean they can challenge and beat anyone.
Wlad KO Corbett, Jeffries, Johnson, Schmeling, Baer, Patterson, Charles Wlad UD Walcott, Liston, Marciano, Holyfield, Frazier Ali TKO Wlad Louis KO Wlad Tyson KO Wlad Holmes UD Wlad Foreman KO Wlad Lewis KO Wlad
Frazier and Foreman are so small comapred to todays heavius. frazier like 5'11 and 200, and foreman like 6'3 and 220 in the 70's. not much bigger then chris byrd. and byrd is bigger then frazier. as crazy as it sounds. byrd was 210 and like 6'
