The ref stopped (blocked) Inoue absolutely intentionally.

I didn't notice that, but I was watching ND. Ref messed up. Good thing ND didn't win or the conspirecy theorists would be out in full force.

That what you get from that, if Nonito would have won on the cards? Not the injustice towards Inoue, not the screwup itself, not the ruining of the WBSS 118 final, but the possible "conspirecy theorists" coming out of the woodwork?!

It was a botched dive by Donaire

It shouldn't slide by any means. That was a KO, except Donaire got like 16 seconds instead of 10 and still didn't seem to beat the refs official count. The fight should have ended right there.

The ref didn't mess anything up imo. Donaire used all of his veteran savvy to save himself from a great body. It took every second to recover. The ref couldn't let Inoue hit him from behind.

I suppose you could look at it in a few ways, yes if it was stopped he wouldnt have had to endure another round of taking shots. I agree the ref made a mistake, but at the end of the day I got to see Donaire finish possibly his last fight on his feet and not on his knees. He deserves that for his contribution to the sport. So even though it was a mistake, I will let that one slide.

Many of us have never been hit with a clean body shot, but you may have had the wind knocked out of you. How long did it take for you to recover? Could you continue fighting lets say 16 seconds later. Did you fall right then and there or did you run and then fall. I'd imagine that it took you minutes to recover. Stop reading into this too much. Donaire wasn't taking a dive or any of that. He got caught with a vicious body shot and recovered-yet some of you find fault by the ref and Donaire. Foh.

The right guy won. Sure the ref messed up. The question is, what was his intentions. Was it a quick knee jerk reaction that was made in a split second or was there some sordid decision prior to the fight to protect Nonito. My point, perhaps not fully explained, was that if Nonito had won, the consensus among the conspirecy theorists, would have been corruption. In the end, the misconduct of the ref had zero effect on the outcome of the fight. Another point to be made is, could the ref had seen Nonito unable to defend himself, therefore, prompted him to protect Nonito, which is the refs primary function.

I thought he didn't beat the count but hes such a geezer I can forgive it and not think about it. Both brought nothing but good things before, during and after the fight. That fight is what I love about boxing, two of the biggest killers and no attitude, none

Nobody is denying that! This thread is more about the referee – I just couldn’t understand why he was doing what he did. But now, after having watched it for several times (including a Russian TV version, where one of the commentators said “Below the belt!” at the time of the punch) I think I do. The ref thought it was a low blow, so he blocked Inoue, intending to give Donaire some time to recover. But then, most probably, somebody told him that that was a legit punch, so he started to count.

I also thought it was low until Donaire was accepting the count with no resistance or complaints, I think the ref did to at first ?? The way Donaire jogged off was like someone running off being hit low, it could be confusing..
