Re: Calzaghe / RJJ Calzaghe was clearly winning the first round until the Knockdown....which resulted in a 10/8 round to RJJ... If RJJ was all over Calzaghe and knocks him down.... It is still a 10/8 round to RJJ. In the first instance..... there was a reversal of 3 points....Instead of Calzaghe leading 10/9....RJJ is leading 10/8 So the knockdown is effectively worth 3 points... In the second scenario.... The knockdown would have been worth 1 point. Does this seem fair?..... I think Judges need to be given a little leeway here and take the whole round into account.
when was the last time someone got KD and it did not end up in a 10-8 round. judges are not scoring 10-10 much anymore and i have not seen any 10-8 without a KD much in the last year
Agreed..... But how often have you seen the Judges take the whole round into Account? I mean..... Boxing matches....World Titles are being decided this way...
matches and titles are being decided by how much punches a fighter trows... not how much he connects, wish is really gay and stupid.
Knockdowns do count for too much, but only in instances in which the fighter knocked down was not hurt and won the round. In that instance it should be a 10-9 round to the fighter who scored the knockdown. It is a very good point by oz.
9-9 and not 10-9. you are deducting a point for the KD but if the person who got KD won the round then the starting score before the point is deducted should be 10-9 so the round would end up being scored as 9-9.
it has been the trend for a long time now that get a KD and you are getting 10-8 and they are no longer giving many 10-10's and are not giving 10-8's when no KD has occured
I only used the Calzaghe/ RJJ fight as a possible example .... Do you honestly think they would have scored it anything but a 10-8 round whatever?
Hmmm I can see both sides to this. A knockdown is a big deal IMO. It lets fighters with a big punch be rewarded for their ability. But if the round was a total mismatch before the knockdown, then a 10-9 or maybe 10-10 is probably in order. If the round is relatively close, then the knockdown must be rewarded with the 10-8. But if for example, Marquez was easily winning the round he was knocked down in against Pacquiao II (can't remember what round or IF he was actually winning it), and the judges decided to call it 10-9, the fight would've been a draw. If they decided to call it even, Marquez would've won the fight. I think adding even more subjectivity to the scoring might be too much, because in this instance, the result could've gone three ways based simply on the round the knockdown was in. At least with the usual 10-8 scoring of a knockdown, the victim of the KD knows he's down 2 points because of it, and has to adjust accordingly.
What an absurd proposition. knock downs are an exciting advent and fights are often boring. rewarding knock downs facilitates aggressive boxing and produces more entertaining fights. simply an awful idea.
