Langford would be smaller - something like 150 versus 180 - but that never bothered him. I also hear arguments that Langford was "green" at this time, although he had already beaten Joe Jennette and Joe Gans. Dempsey, for his part, is supposed to have been "washed up", although he did have a top drawer win in him still (unless you prefer to use the Dempsey from the second Tunney fight) and is a savy pro by this stage. Is this Dempsey to much for the young Langford? Or would Langford be able to get the job done versus an older opponent? What do you think?
Dempsey wins easy. Langford was a newbie to the heavyweight ranks when Johnson defeated him. A far cry from the terror he would eventually become a few years later. Dempsey’s power and experience would be too much.
