There's gotta be a montage of Merchant's "Shakespearean" moments on YouTube (I call them "Feelings, by Larry Merchant" Merchant's Foster Brooks like soliloquies ). He does it every fight, pre- and post-, and every time I turn to my dad and say, "Is he making this up? or is he reading this off a teleprompter and he's a little too sloshed to make it out?" It always goes the same way... "Thanks Jim...(turns to the camera, long pause)... boxing is like a ham sandwich...(really long pause)...you've got bread...(pause)...and you've got the ham....(Lampley and Steward leave for dinner, cameraman starts to dose off)........"
:rofl the guy is hlarious I like merchant except when he says a fight is boring. I mean sometimes i am enjoying a so-called boring fight and i don't need this douchebag trying to convince me that its not a good one. Also i don't like when he disrespects fighter in the post fight interview. Go ahead and ask the tough questions but its important to at least congratulate them on their victory if they won or their effort if they lost.
After the DLH fight. "Fernando Vargas has a six pack in his body... he doesn't have a six pack in his chin."
I think it was the 7th round of Gatti-Ward III. Both were giving their all and were bloody and battered. Larry said something like "The Atlantic ocean outside these walls is turning into the red sea."
Jim Lampley has a couple of good ones to. Talking about Manny Pacquiao: "He could make the PGA Tour watchable"
After the Forrest/Quartey fight a few years ago. Forrest got a gift decision and he was thanking his trainers and everyone else involved and Merchant said, "Would you also like to thank the judges?" HA HA.
