He lost his WBO title that night.

Since then, do you know how many Americans have tried to win the world title?

Lets look, chronilogically and by title

    IBF

    Chris Byrd
    Calvin Brock
    Ray Austin
    Tony Thompson
    Hasim Rahman
    Eddie Chambers

    WBA

    Monte Barrett
    Jameel McCline
    John Ruiz
    Evander Holyfield
    John Ruiz
    Cedrick Boswell

    WBC

    Hasim Rahman
    Jameel McCline
    Chris Arreola
    Kevin Johnson
    Shannon Briggs

    WBO

    Evander Holyfield
    Tony Thompson
    Hasim Rahman
    Eddie Chambers

So, by my maths, Americans are 0-21 in Title shots since They last had a "world champion"

    Is American Heavyweight boxing dead?

Should Americans be banned from challenging for the title with such an appaling record of humiliating defeats?

    what do you think?

Technically speaking, the last american heeavyweight champion lost on 08/03/2008 by TKO to Nigerian Samuel Peter.

    No joke.

I like Shannon but it was one of the worst displays by a defending champ ever. The winner was not much better.

the real truth is nobody cares about mitchell other than a few dozen people online :patsch

  13. He was A champion of A sanctioning body. He wasn't THE Champion. Still a champion though.

I like him, as I do Deontay too but he's not beating a Klitschko, hopefully he can get into the top 3 though and I think he's capable.
