in the year 1999, 17 years ago. I remember watching that fight live on PPV. News doesn't travel fast like today's internet, but there was electricity in the air that night. Everyone saw the promos on TV and people talked about it, even non-boxing fans.

DLH ran the last 4 rounds, but I thought he still won the fight clearly.

Boxing is about to be treated with a similar event on Saturday. It's a once in a boxing generation that something like this happens. I hope you guys enjoy it as much as I will.

Kessler wasn't P4P though. Maybe he was on the edge, around top 10-15. It was still a great fight though.

Yeah, I know it's debatable, as Kessler almost certainly wasn't top 10. But I think they were both a lock for top 15-20 guys, which is still a nice clash.

drenlou nailed it, though, because Vargas was almost certainly viewed as a top P4P guy at that time.

And I agree with the spirit of your post, even if there is a technicality.

Yeah, that one had slipped my mind, too.

    Good call, MVC.

Yeah you're right, although Vargas' exclusion into the P4P rankings at that time is highly debatable imo. Campas, Marquez, Wright, Quartey, all great wins for a guy who was 20-0 going into the Tito fight. Looks like MVC! Was the ring dinger!

Yeah, I believe you are correct on Vargas, too. I was wondering the same thing you just touched on. I think MVC had the best call of the 3 - as I'm fairly certain Hatton WAS top 10 P4P (despite the Collazo fiasco).

Good fight, but come on. Hatton arguably lost to Collazo before getting in the ring with Mayweather.

You may be right though. Maybe Hatton was on the edge of the top 10. Saturday night, we're going to have 2 top 5 P4P fighters.

First there were other undefeated p4p fights since then. And two if DLH ran for the last 4 rounds how could you have him winning clearly? All Tito had to do is win 2 of the first 8 rounds and itd be a draw. Im a huge Tito fan but i gave the fight to Oscar in a close decision. And by close i mean oscar allowed it to be close because once he tasted Titos power in the 4th round he got on his horse and ran for the better part of the rest of the fight.

But Hatton was an undefeated P4P Top 10 boxer in 2007, so he's right.

I remember thinking Hatton was rated too highly in a P4P sense for awhile around that time. But people tended to rate him highly around then.
