The Men who are going about there daily lives or being a gym rat just waiting for that call to lace em' up, and then all of a sudden they get that call that they been hoping for, Someone's pulled out of a title fight and we need you to save the show. Some fighters say no. They need 6 weeks to get fighting fit but some just say ''when and where??'' these guys are normally the show savers. But some were the Show Stealers??? guys who didn't read the script and went from a opponent to a champion in matter of days or weeks. From relative obscurity to being a modern day Hollywood Story. It can be title fights domestically or abroad and the fighter has to be brought in at late notice, a few weeks max.
Martinez's life and career has been changed hugely after Williams offered him their fight at 3 weeks notice.
A lot of people under estimated him for Pavlik fight because they said he gassed a bit against Williams but as you say he was brought in with 3 weeks to go and imo won the fight but what a fight it was. Show Stealer for sure :good
Jon Thaxton came in I think as a 3rd choice sub replacement for his fight against 'Scrap Iron' at 2 days notice (The fight was pushed back by three days). One of the most avoided lightweights was suddenly in the limelight. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LITzByerkVo[/ame] http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=174923
:yep I'd been looking for the fight for months and had finally found a place that sold it. The day before I put my order in, I found it on Youtube by a massive coincidence (I was watching Lueshing vs Saunders I and just went on the channel of guy who had uploaded it to see what other fights, if any, he had - and there was the Thaxton fight!). It certainly didn't disappoint :good
Beautiful from Thaxton took one and then just went bosh gotta love Thaxton he was always best as the underdog
Agreed His emotions for the sport make me a fan. Tears in his eyes when he talks about fights and about his fights. The guy loves this sport and i'm glad he had some great success because he's a true servant to the game.
Ricardo Torres was a late replacement in the fight against Cotto, i think the HBO staff were going on about him being some farmer lol He came oh so close to one of the most sensational ko's ever.
I remember Vitali coming in late for that fight. Seems people forget that. He put up great display for a late sub. Probably better fight then the actual fight that was supposed to happen.
Good shouts both of those. The Ledwaba fight helped get Pacquiao in there with Barrera and the rest is history (sorry to our extensive group of Barrera lovers, btw!) Vitali is still living off the Lewis fight to this day even though he lost, the argument has been done so many times it ought to be boring but those dafties on the General (and the classic now :yep) still keep biting I'm sure there are a few that have filled in on Sports Network shows and gave Warren the jitters before losing gallantly..... Who was the guy that was pulled out of the crowd to fight Tommy Morrison.... apparently he'd been in the bar as well - the WBO still sanctioned it though :yikes
