Man this sucks. Two amazing fights he gave us this year. Gonna be thinking about Superman while I hit the bag tonight.
After I literally wished Stevenson a vicious demise in or out of the ring for years on here, rooting for every opponent to brutalize him, going as far as actually hoping for The Nail to crucify and martyr him in this match, now that its actually happened. It feels kind of weird, and not in a good way. So I hope he pulls through for his family's sake. This whole thing feels kind of like how I said Bruce Jenner was a homo for years and when he came out as a tranny, that managed to exceed my expectations. Very odd, its hard to wrap my head around.
I hope he pulls through. Going into the 11th round, you'd think that something like this couldn't happen in the fight. He didn't take that much punishment in the fight, just the last and final round.
He could've picked up an injury in sparring and it finally showed its head in the fight, or even a previous fight, or do they have a scan yearly or each fight, im not sure. I seen an interview with him right before the fight another poster mentioned it to, how Stevenson seemed odd when asked questions, just something I couldn't quite workout with him
No, it was the vicious beating The Nail gave him in the 11th, capped off with that horrifying flush straight right if his. Long drawn out beatings are usually the cause of brain bleeds, but when its a long drawn out beating, capped off with beating tagged by a fresh opponent with great stamina with full force power shots, that's literally a recipe for a disaster.
I fear the worst, if he survives he'll never be the same. You don't ever recover from these things, not fully. See Gerald McClellan, or others. Brain injuries never fully heal after severe trauma. Hopefully champ proves me wrong.
More likely his age. Cutting off the weight and rebounding is a lot harder at 41. The 9 round beating Stevenson got from Gvozdyk didn't help. This also could've happened to Hopkins when he fought against Kovalev, but to this day I still think Kovalev carried him for the first 11 rounds, since he didn't want to risk being known for beating an old man into oblivion. In your late 30's to early 40's you just can't push yourself or take punishment like a person in their late 20's to early 30's can. Heavyweights can get away with fighting into their 40's a little easier than guys at the lighter weights, since they don't have to cut weight.
Never liked him. Never wanted this sort of thing to happen though. Hope he pulls through it somehow. This is bad news.
If anything it should re enforce belief in ourselves that we’re ok and that we are above all that. I’ve said similar things about him myself.
It’s true, better to face a Mike Tyson and get sparked out nice n quick than this.Eubank Jnr who doesn’t have crushing power did for Blackwell in similar circumstances.
What? Is.... Well, I guess I kind of hope he pulls through so his kids can have a father now considered soft?
